Amazon.com Product Description Why bother waiting for the photo lab when you can print images that are just as good--or maybe better--at home? The Canon PIXMA iP4200 combines five-color printing with a 1,856-nozzle print head capable of delivering superfine 1-picoliter ink droplets. The result is gorgeously clean, sharp prints delivered into your hands just minutes after you snapped the shot. Color resolution is as high as 9,600 x 2,400 dpi, with black resolution up to 600 x 600 dpi. Print speeds range up to 29 ppm for monochrome and 19 ppm in color; a borderless 4-by-6-inch photo takes as little as 51 seconds. With the iP4200's automatic two-sided printing, you can easily produce glossy brochures and invitations right from your desktop. Improved ink technology supplies rich black text that offers exceptional resistance to smudges--it even holds up to highlighter pens. (All reported speeds are maximums. Actual speeds will vary.) With its straightforward USB port, connecting the printer with your computer is a snap; the iP4200 is compatible with both Windows and Macintosh operating systems and includes software tools like Easy-PhotoPrint (Windows/Mac), Easy WebPrint (Windows), and PhotoRecord (Windows). A direct print port allows you to print directly from a PictBridge-compatible digital camera or DV camcorder, with or without your computer. The printer is backed with a one-year limited warranty covering parts and labor. Piece of crap September 21, 2008 Prints beautifully when it's working, which is rare. This printer has a software interface with the computer that is designed to monitor ink tank levels, etc. This software is constantly telling you that there is something wrong with the ink cartridges when there is not, even with brand new cartridges. The software is constantly in your face, basically compelling you to go buy some more ink cartridges (which are exorbitantly priced). You cannot circumvent the software and will find yourself in a situation where you desperately need to print something and the Canon Corporation demands that you go and buy some ink cartridges when in fact there is nothing wrong with the ones you have. Overall, this printer is a piece of crap. I'm about to go out and run over mine with an automobile tire. Buyer beware.
Great printer, with solid customer service experience August 11, 2008 I have had this printer for about 2 years. It is a realy workhorse, printing lots of photos and text for myself and my wife. This thing does a great job with both. Also, despite what some reviewers on here say, the separate ink tanks have the potential to save you considerable amounts of money. Much better design than a single tank model.
Although I've never tried to refill ink tanks or use after-market tanks in this printer, I did run into the plague of ink tank error messages that many reviewers have described. Turns out I had not one, but two defective ink tanks in the printer. After discussing the issue with online support from Canon, they sent two new ink tanks at no charge. They arrived within 3 days.
Decent Printer - Pitiful Support August 4, 2008 Purchased this printer some time back but decided to give it a review after using it. The printer quality is acceptable, even for 8x10 color photographs.
However, it periodically just quits working - "The printer is off line..." Tried a number of times to get technical support at Canon to assist me without success - would not even answer my emails.
As far as I am concerned, I will never purchase another Canon product again. If the printer won't print, it is just as good as not having a printer.
You'll go broke buying ink for this machine May 8, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Sure, it's cheap, but you'll quickly make up for that in buying ink. This printer takes 5 separate ink cartirdges, 4 of which must be bought in a pack, so you end up with extras you never use. It will refuse to print if it thinks any of those 5 cartridges have unacceptable ink levels. This has happened to me even on a fairly new cartridge. Even worse, my particular machine often gets confused and tells me I have more than one of the same color installed (I don't). Again, because of this, it refuses to print. I wish I'd never bought this printer.
Fantastic Photos April 22, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
When I was shopping for a new printer last year. I looked at many brands for consumer evaluations. Canon got the highest rank over all and the price was within my budget. The photos are clear, clean and beautiful. The paper doesn't take long to dry as with many printers and you only have to replace the cartridges individualy, nice when you only run out of one color. I also like the fact that when not in use you can close all trays, no dust build-up and things don't get dropped inside. The availability to print quickly or quality and two paper trays that can be changed in an instant, just push a button.
