1 out of 5 stars Not even close   June 4, 2008
I'm with some of the other reviewers here.. I didn't really expect to get full range, but when testing in a suburban Virginia neighborhood I barely got 4 blocks (~ 3/4 mi). Unless you're on a lake they are pretty much useless.

3 out of 5 stars I have no regrets!!   April 5, 2007
This is a very simple 2 ways radio. I used for 3 days and one stops working. Of course Amazon change it and the other one it's still working. I used for a travel in Disney and it worked very well.

3 out of 5 stars Not 12 miles   March 19, 2007
Tried this at a straight stretch of road at a distance of 3 miles works good but beyond that lot of static. NOAA feature is good and helpful during storm warnings.Definitely not for 12 miles as it says on the cover even with one watt transmitting power.

3 out of 5 stars GOOD THINK FOR GOOD REASON   January 27, 2007
The T6500 Radio is a good choice for the person that need something standard and don t spend much money.

2 out of 5 stars Fair range/reception at best.   January 10, 2007
I purchased these radios not having first hand experience with FRS/GMRS radios at all. But I did do a lot of research. Unfortunately most of the negative reviews I read about them were true for me. The 1 watt of power only got me about .5 mile of reception at best. The people who only need two-way radios for usage ranges of less than this may love this radio. If this does not describe you, then I strongly recommend going for a higher wattage model (for example I now know that Midland makes some excellent 4 and 5 watt models). Power = range. The advertised max ranges of all radios can likely only ever be reached under extremely ideal conditions. That's marketing for you. I did return the Motorolas and got my money back.
