Sounds great, looks sleek, easy to use December 31, 2007 I bought this for my wife to replace a Sony whose CD player stopped working. The sound quality is outstanding for a shelf system. It looks really sleek and modern. We put it in the kitchen but with "line of sight" to the family room. This makes it convienient to use from either room with the very user friendly and thin remote. The remote has good range, at least 20 feet.
One of the real benefits of this unit, is the ease of use. I never really figured how to use her Sony shelf system. The Phillips has placed all the controls front and center and layed them out in three, logical groups. This is so much easier to grasp than the bewildering array of buttons scattered around the sides, top and front of so many units today. Also, all the controls are buttons, round are retangular and slightly recessed to make for a very clean look. All buttons have a high quality and consistent feel. Makes for a very nice departure from the array of sliders, knobs, buttons, etc., found on many other units in this price range.
The sound is very clear ... crystal and sparkling come to mind. Piano music sounds outstanding. An added bonus is a extra bass button and 4 or 5 pre-programmed equalizer modes. Classic, Pop, Jazz, Rock and maybe one more. It has good bass, without distorting, but if you want something that will shake the wallls, this is not it. Presets are very nice and easy to use, along with the auto programming feature. The FM tuner sounds particurally good and has good separation ... not sure that's the right term, but the stations do not overlap like they do on many inexpensive systems. AM sound is clear.
Comes with decent FM and AM antennas and includes Aux and Headphone jacks. My only wish is for a recessed handle on the back, or top, to make it easier to move with one hand. Have to use two hands to pick it up an move to another room. The unit also comes with screws, mollys and a template to mount on the wall, if your prefer.
Very nice unit. I don't think you can beat it for under $100.
Good Value for Money. - Under powered July 27, 2007 I bought this for music in my toddlers room. For that purpose I think this is fine. Takes very little space. Is easy to use. Its cheap so if he breaks it I won't vent as much :-).
For any other purpose I would say this is an extremely under powered system.
It's fine when it works June 4, 2007 Here's another example of a product that has features available only on the remote control. Once the remote quits, you are out of luck. The first remote worked for about 8 months. The replacement the company sent worked for two days. I'm awaiting the third replacement; it's been six weeks and I fully expect I won't ever receive one. So the unit works well and the sound is fine, but I I can't set the sleep, repeat, or shuffle funcitons. I won't ever buy another Philips product.
very good April 28, 2007 i have had this stereo for several months now and i have had no problems.
Sounds "OK" and looks nice... April 22, 2007 Pros: Looks good, works.
Cons: "Micro" sized sound. Zero low-end (bass) response.
I run wireless audio from my main stereo system to this unit mounted on the wall in a smaller room. It does the job adequately while taking up little space and blends in with the decor. I would consider this a fine unit for "casual" listening in a work room, kitchen, etc.
I only tested the CD player once. Mine works.
