Only because no stars wasn't an option July 9, 2008 We purchased this DVD player at Christmas. From day 1 the picture was very stretched vertically. This happened on every DVD we tried. We learned to live with it. We really aren't picky.
We've just passed July 4th and now the DVD player won't recognize any DVD or CD AT ALL. We contacted Sony and were told that we would need to send it in for warranty repair. BUT, they wanted us to pay $36 + shipping for the repair to be completed under warranty.
(I know, that didn't make sense to me either.)
Now sending it in for warranty repair is another roll of the dice. The representative explained that they may not even send the original unit back to us. They may send us a comparable unit. What is a comparable unit, we asked. The response that we got was that it would be whatever they decided to send us at the time. They did state that it might not even be the same model. Not much of a warranty repair on a player that lasted 7 months.
And now thanks to Sony, the search begins for a new (non-Sony) player.
Great player for under 100 bucks June 12, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I got this to go with my 61" Samsung DLP and it looks great. Have not compared side-by-side with Blu-Ray but regular DVDs seem to be converted to hi def.
OK DVD Player May 4, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
This DVD player was a decent deal. The video quality is good and it remembers the last place on many DVDs to pick up at that point. The biggest negative that I can say is that it starts up slow and is slow to load in a DVD. It may be due to the advanced features loading. It tricks us sometimes by making us think that we didn't hit the on or off button. It's OK.
Another great Sony Product April 7, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have always had great success with Sony products and have always leaned towards them as a first option when purchasing new. Our previous DVD player was a Sony and had lasted for 11 years, through 3 young children and a move to a new house. The pick-up inside the unit was shot and it was time to shop for another. I'm very pleased with the DVD Player, it's ease of setup and it's flexibility of controls during playback. The picture is graet and the sound is much more balanced than our previous Sony. As a bonus, all of the Library DVDs now play flawlessly, which really satisfies the 3 young children.....
two for one deal April 6, 2008 0 out of 11 found this review helpful
I was very disapointed in Amazon for linking this with my new LCD television as though it were a good deal. I was not familiar with these DVDs that upscale to 1080.. but leared i could get virtually the same thing from sony for half the price.
