4 out of 5 stars Belkin transfer cable   September 7, 2008
This product worked very well with one exception. There was no warning that any e-mails on the new computer would be wiped out by the transfer from the old computer. If there had been, I would have backed them up. No other files on the new computer were wiped out by the transfer, just the e-mail files. Overall, I definitely recommend this product.

5 out of 5 stars Worked perfectly   August 28, 2008

I'm glad I bought this before reading the reviews, otherwise I wouldn't have bought it!

I plugged it in and had some initial problems because I didn't plug in the USB cord in the correct order. Once I did that, the two computer recognized each other. I set up the files to transfer and away they went. Well, not that quickly - it took almost twelve hours.

One note: I did not use the software that came with the product. I used the MS transfer software that was already on the computer. The new computer had Vista and the old had Windows XP.

2 out of 5 stars Not Needed If You Have a Networked Computer   August 19, 2008

The Belkin Easy Transfer Cable for Windows is not needed if your new computer is connected to a network that has your old computer on it. I tried for several hours to get this to work. It constantly disconnected itself. This caused me to start over. Finally, I realized all I had to know was manually transfer the files through the network.

The cable does not transfer programs, only data files. The program mentioned in the documentation indicated that Microsoft has a program that will transfer programs. The only problem is that Microsoft withdrew the program.

An alternative to using the cable if you don't have a network is to burn the files from an old computer onto a CD or DVD then copy them to the new computer.

5 out of 5 stars Belkin Easylink Transfer Cable - just what I ordered!   August 13, 2008
While the cable is as good as Gold, the easy transfer program it works with is less than what I consider user friendly. It does transferring rather more autonomously than I would like with not enough feedback information for me to know about what it is doing exactly. This makes me wonder whether I was successful in getting all my transferring done.
