Hate shaving? Get an epilator!! August 21, 2008
I've had this epilator for a few years now. I've been using it off and on during those few years. Let me first describe my situation. I have PCOS. One of the side effects of PCOS is excess hair. In other words, I'm one of those gals who could shave in the morning and have a 5 o'clock shadow by, well, 5 o'clock. The reason why I decided to buy an epilator and stop shaving is because my skin is sensitive and my legs would become irritated from having to shave daily. Not to mention that you could see the hair underneath my skin. I figured that the epilator would work well since it pulls the hair from the root.
Now let's discuss first time use. In terms of pain, yes, it hurts. But it's true that the more you use it, the less it hurts. When you first epilate, be sure to grow your hair out for a week or more. Longer hair will hurt more to remove but hair grows in different stages so if the hair is too short, you'll be disappointed when more hair grows in the next day. Be sure to pull your skin tight so the tweezers can grab the hair more easily.
Personally, I can go about a week without having to epilate. Sometimes I need to touch up certain areas but it doesn't take more than 5 minutes in the morning. And like I mentioned above, the tweezers pull hair out from the root so you can't see the hair below the skin. Another bonus is that I've noticed the hair on my legs thinning and growing much slower even when I don't use the epilator.
The reason for the 4 stars is because you absolutely must exfoliate daily or you will get ingrown hairs. I don't know why my legs act this way but even when I exfoliate, my legs begin to tingle after a few days as the hair tries to poke through the skin. I've tried many different exfoliating products and lotions but it still happens. And because of this, I can't epilate for a few days because my skin hurts. It's tough to keep epilating when I have this problem so I switch between shaving and epilating every month or so.
I wouldn't recommend this product to everyone. If you have excess hair or you need to shave daily, I'd recommend it. If you consider hair removal to be an everyday problem, I'd recommend it. If, however, you have little to no hair, you don't have to shave everyday, and you have no tolerance for pain, I'd stick to shaving.

I really like this epilator. It did hurt more than I expected the first time I used it, but I was very impressed with the results. Very smooth legs, much smoother than with a razor. I will definitely continue to use this product

I like the older model of the Braun Silk epil. I don't like the new style head of this model. It is more painful to use.

I got this product after my best friend raved about her epilator. This is the first epilator I have tried -- and previously shaved my legs and waxed my arm pits.
It is a little intimidating to use at first, but once you're used to it -- it's no big deal. I found the roller-head attachment unnecessary and use it without it.
I've been using my epilator for about two years now -- coupled with a hair inhibiting moisturizer (I use "Get Out of Hair" by Bliss) -- and my leg and underarm hair have proceeded to get thinner and scantier since I first started.
I love my epilator!!!
My first epilator, I love it! July 22, 2008
This is my first epilator and it's great. I read a lot of reviews of the top selling products in amazon and I decided to get this one, right price for good quality brand [I wish this one is blue though].
My only shaving area was my underarm and everybody complain about the pain of epilating underarm, so I was prepared. Turnout, it was ok, I didn't feel much pain. I guess I was one of the lucky one that have not much hair to deal with in the first place and I think that the massage rollers head did help a little. Now I'm glad that I could say goodbye to "everyday shaving" forever. Get it now!
