The Uniden TRU9466 is thoughtfully designed for small businesses or homes that find two separate phone lines to be one of life's necessities. The system is expandable to include a total of 10 handsets with charging cradles (available separately). This TRU9466 base system includes one handset, and is the only one of the expandable system that requires connection to a phone jack. DirectLink two-way radio communication is built into each handset and the base speakerphone, allowing them to function as an in-home intercom system or baby monitor. Redial any of the last three dialed numbers at the touch of a button, activate five-way conference calls or just enjoy the consistent, clear 5.8 GHz digital signal transmission. You can transfer incoming calls between the handset and base, and make use of the convenient hands-free design by using the included belt clip and built-in headset jack (headsets available separately). Easily adjust handset and ringer volume levels to your comfort, and set the handset LCD menu to one of three menu languages (English, French, or Spanish).  Good phone, but be careful January 21, 2008

Overall I'm pleased with this phone, but three minor issues.
1) The first phone base I received didn't work worth a damn. Tons of static and a range of around 10ft. So I took it back and demanded a exchance. The second one worked like a champ. The only problem seemed to be the emitter in the base unit.
2) In our situation we have two lines both with their own vmail accounts. There is no way to tell which mail account has the vmail from the phone base. So essentially if you have a voicemail(s), you need to either listen for the tone skip on both lines or call each one since you may have a vmail on L1, L2, or both. This is rather silly, but compared to the other phones in the market, it is worth the tradeoffs.
3) The vmail indicator seems to have a rather long delay before reseting. Seems like a simple thing, but has some hiccups.

I was in need of a two-line, combination cordless/speakerphone, that could be dialed from the base station, but which did not have a built-in answering system. Because the number of phones that fits this description was unexpectedly small, I purchased the TRU9466 for my office. This, to me, seemed to be a perfectly reasonable expected use for the device. But, while line 1 has worked perfectly well for the first month, line 2 has a severe echo. Upon calling Uniden's technical support I was told that the phone base needed to be placed at least 10 to 15 feet from any computer or electronic device in order to work properly. I cannot imaging myself having the unique need and desire to be able to work on a computer and to talk on a phone simultaneously. Yet it seems that Uniden expects purchasers of its devices to forgo any other modern amenity in lieu of having the benefit of an non-echoing cordless phone. I wonder if the ever-so-helpful technical support person was using a ring-binder instead of a computer to help solve this issue.
Don't buy this phone if you also have a computer by which it might be placed. And moreso, do not expect any valuable knowledge or assistance to come from Uniden's abysmal technical support.
I give this phone two stars only because line 1 seems to work ok, it does have decent speakerphone, and the battery life for the handset is reasonable.
Frequent freezes require unplugging battery December 21, 2007

A very good phone, but the handset freezes and has to be rebooted, like a bad operating system. You disconnect the handset from the battery for a few seconds, plug it in again, and then recharge it, and you love the phone till it happens again, which it does. Two Stars.

This phone seemed nice but certainly would not fit where most wall phones would be mounted. It protrudes too far into a traffic area.

I a phone nut. I have them all over my house and office. I have tested most cordless phones on the market, and none of them cheapies. Sony, Panasonic, ATT etc. The Uniden 5.8 has been hands down the best overall for sound, range and longevity.
The TRU9466 is the 2nd generation that I have owned. I have about 8 handsets and they system works great. I really liked that I did not have to get an answering machine with it. I just needed 2 lines with a speaker base with dial pad.
Another great feature is you can set each line to ring a certain way or turn it off. For instance my wife does not want my office line ringing in our bedroom, so we turn it off.
Overall it is a very good system with a great track record in my book.
