1 out of 5 stars Same problem as others!   October 5, 2008
DO NOT BUY IF YOU HAVE OR ARE PLANNING ON UPGRADING TO VISTA!!!!! After buying a new computer with the latest and greatest OS I have had nothing but problems with this. It does not work. I start playing music and a short while later the sound cuts out and I have to restart windows. Not fun. Support is non-existant for this product. All you can find online is the download for the software, and there are no answers. You can forget about up to date drivers as they have not been updated from version 1.0 written in 2006. It also hurts your ears A LOT after about 15 minutes of wear. Microsoft LifeChat LX-3000 Headset

3 out of 5 stars Great headset, Average Sound Quality   September 16, 2008
I am a college student who enjoys music and games on his laptop.

Pros: Pretty Comfy fit, it dosen't wear on your. It was plug and play with my vista laptop, and my XP desktop. The Mute/Volume buttons are easy to get to and responsive. Mic seems to work good.

Cons: Average Sound Quality. If you really enjoy games or music it is worth the money to get something alittle better quality. I have some 35$ headphones that blow these out of the water.

Overall: These are not bad, especially if you are voice chatting on webcam. The sound quality is not terrible(Great for everyday use), but if you want a immersive music/game experience I suggest upgrading alittle, it is definately worth the extra money for the better expereince. These are not bad headphones, they are great in almost everyway but sound quality(I stress this is the only real negative).

Side Notes: This product is USB(No analog 3.5mm jacks), and they have a button on it that has a picture of a telephone and a globe(I assume it is for Skype or something of that nature), so if you are using this for internet chat it might be the right product for you.

5 out of 5 stars from an audiophile to another / highly recommended..   September 3, 2008
i have a lot of professional studio quality condenser mics with pop filters and many other sound recording audio equipments.

when it comes to skype and internet voice chatting.. i haven't thought i would recommend something as simple and cheap as this headset over professional studio quality audio mics.

this thing shines in voice chatting. It comes with pre-built filter chipset that masks unwanted low frequency audio signals from both the mic and the headset which makes speech very audible and crisp without the need of fiddling around with professional hardware audio pre-amps & filters.

unlike some logitech headsets i've tried before, no matter where you position your mouth in relation to the mic, this headset always seem to pick up your speech without any distortion.

also, it doesn't need any software on my vista 64 bit..

one more thing; this headset might not be what you're looking for if your target is listening to music. it's good, but i recommend Sony MDR-EX700LP or MDR-NC500D (but that's for another review).

anyway., can't say enough good words about this microsoft headset.. highly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars Great Headset   August 30, 2008
I wanted a headset for use with Skype. I have USB ports on the front of my computer but no audio jacks, so I decided to try a USB headset for the first time. The LifeChat LX-3000 has worked perfectly in every regard.

I was a little leery about getting this headset because the package talks about Windows Live but nothing about other services like Skype. However, it works perfectly with Skype. I was able to select this headset in the Skype control panel and still keep my regular computer speakers for everything else.

I want to point out that you do NOT need the included software. The USB plug for the headset includes a "Install Software First" sticker on it, but I threw the sticker away and just plugged it in. Windows XP recognized the headset and installed the needed drivers without me having to do a thing. The headset shows up in the Audio Devices control panel and it's easy to select whether I want the computer's sound to come out of the headset or my regular speakers (you can also select the headset in Skype independent of the main audio control panel). I'm assuming the included disk includes Windows Live and probably a bunch of other stuff I don't need or want; I'm glad I didn't have to deal with it.

Functionally I don't think you could expect more for the price. The padded headphones are really comfortable; I was able to talk to my friend half way around the world for several hours and never gave a thought to the fact I was wearing a headset. The mic seems to pick up well regardless of the position (after some experimentation I figured out that chin level picks up my voice well without picking up my breathing). Because they are USB there's less of a chance of buzzing or other analog noise you might get with a phono-plug headset. Also, the in-line remote is handy to mute your mic if you need to cough or clear your throat.

This is a great headset that works perfectly with Skype, and at the price it's an absolute bargain.
