iPod Classic 160GB not as good as my iPod Video 80GB May 16, 2008 Received this iPod as a gift about 1 month ago, a Classic 160GB. I am now on my 3rd one as I have had to return two of them to the store. The first one was so slow, so unresponsive that the click wheel would just not work, not for a while any ways. Maybe you have to wait for it to load all of that coverflow, album art first before it works. Also the screen quality was very poor, looked grainy and not very colorful. On the second unit, the hold switched stopped working, and the screen quality on that one wasn't very good either. There have been a few software updates already from Apple so maybe they are software glitches that are being fixed. The screen clarity, colors are just not as good as previous iPods, especially the video version. The sound is pretty good but the video at times leaves something to be desired. My previous iPod video looked like an HD TV compared to this "new" classic. I was kind of disappointed in Apple because of the way the quality has gone down on these things. We have owned every type of ipod except for the touch, and as time goes on they seem to get a little cheaper in quality (except for the iPod video, which I really liked). For this kind of money I expect a lot more. Is Apple making these in China or Malaysia maybe, instead of Japan, where quality control is so much better? The fit and finish to these, and the fact that the screen is not flush with the body of the unit makes me think that their manufacturing or quality control is not up to par for some reason.
I couldn't live without my iPod. May 14, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I couldn't live without my new iPod. I recently upgraded my problem-free 4th generation 40 GB iPod to a 6th generation 80 GB classic introduced by Apple on September 5, 2007. The 6th generation iPod features a sleek, slightly thinner body, improved battery life (up to 40 hours of music playback and 7 hours of video playback), and a front plate made of anodized aluminum instead of polycarbonate plastic. The user interface offers more graphics and something new: "Cover Flow." Although I have more than 10,000 songs on my 80 GB model, there is sufficient storage for up to 20,000 songs. For use with a PC, the 6th generation iPod requires a minimum Windows WXP SP2XP operating system, (unlike my 4th generation iPod, which required a minimum Windows 2000 operating system). Initially, the 6th Generation iPod lacked sound quality in the mid range, but a February 6, 2008 Apple firmware update (1.1.1) has reportedly resolved this issue, improving sound quality. The 6th generation iPod features:
1. Cover Flow, which enables a user to browse music by album cover. One minor complaint: on my iPod, not all album artwork appears in Cover Flow mode.
2. Music, organized by playlist, artist, album, song, genre, composer, and more. I primarily use my iPod as a music storage device, and thus far it provided me with problem-free performance.
3. Movies, may be purchased on iTunes and then viewed on this iPod (for up to 7 hours).
4. TV Shows, Podcasts, Audiobooks, and Games may be purchased on iTunes and then synced to this iPod.
5. Photos, the iPod classic holds up to 25,000 photos.
6. Tech Support. I have an Apple store in my neighborhood, and the staff there has prodided me with excellent in-person technical assistance in transfering my music library from my Windows 2000 Operating System to my Windows XP Operating System. They have also been very helpful in answering all questions I have relating to my iPod. Apple telephone technical support, however, has been less helpful on occasion.
I back up my iPod's music library to a highly-recommended Western Digital WDXMS2500TN Passport 250 GB USB Portable Hard Drive, which is roughly the same size as my iPod.

Impressive May 14, 2008 I just received the Apple iPod classic 160 GB Silver (6th Generation) I had ordered through Amazon. I am pretty impressed by the product. It's extremely useful as I now have more space for my music, videos etc.
Great gadget, great color, all the gigs I need May 14, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this silver ipod classic to replace a black 5G that was stolen. For what it's worth, I like the silver color better. It doesn't show scratches as much as the black. 80 gig's is enough for my entire digitized music collection, a couple movies, and nearly a dozen TV episodes. Plus, Amazon sold this model for about $215 at the time I got it--though it's worth a list price at Apple. The only drawback to getting this ipod through Amazon is that you can't engrave it with your name, number, or email--but my first video ipod was engraved, and it still got stolen.
I LOVE IT!!! May 12, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Apple just rarely ever disappoints, that's all there is to it!! Ipods just keep getting better, and the 6th generation 80GB is certainly no exception. Really your only question to yourself is how many songs/pics/vids you want to have at hand, and what price-range you're looking at.
