Right out of the box, the CD player did not work. The info on CD tracks appeared in the mini-screen, but there was no sound. Maybe the failure was related to the fact that the cover for the CD player did not latch easily or reliably, but tended to spring back up instead of closing.
In any case, and as usual, Amazon followed a simple, more or less no-questions-asked return policy. Then I bought a different boom box from them and moved on.

I love this boombox. I bought it like a month ago and we listen to it everyday. I love the way it sounds. I'll recommend this boombox to a friend.

I knew it was going to be big, heavy and ugly, and sound good, when I ordered it, it is all of that, I think it is great, the only thing I would change is that the digital display is small, everything else is big, I love the bass, and powerful sound, it is good for outdoor use.

This radio has excellent sound quality. I think it is too "loud" to look at, but I couldn't find one that looked like an adult would own it. I needed it for my back yard and it serves its purpose. I like the size and weight of it, it feels substantial and it delivers powerful sound.

I looked for a very long time to find a music source that I could haul around. I needed it primarily for out in the yard. Most boomboxes aren't loud enough or the radio reception is lousy. Not so with the new Sony. It has excellent radio reception (I live way out in the sticks) and the sound is very clean and crisp even at high volumn. The unit also sounds good at lower volumn indoors.
Don't get me wrong, it's not a replacement for my home stereo, but then again I can't haul my home unit around either. For a portable music system, it sounds great.
Yes there are a couple of drawbacks.
(1) Ugly! Yea it's ugly, but I don't stare at it, I listen to it.
(2) The LCD display is just plain small. You can't see it at all unless
you're right on top of it.
Bottom line.........No unit is gonna be perfect, but this one is by far the best boombox out there. Especially for the money spent.
