Great value for the price July 5, 2008 I purchased over a year ago and waited to review until I fully appreciated the product. As with most people I compare the product with the Bose products. Dollar for dollar there is no comparison. At approximately half the price, the sound quality and noise reduction are equal. I say that after having tested both items. As for durability, my Audio Tech headphones are in the same condition today as when I bought them. I use them regularly, traveling approximately two times per month. Reviews on the Bose headphones mention concerns about durability. Battery life is also great, and the ability to use the headphones without a connecting wire, for noise reduction is a definite plus. The only possible negative is that when wearing them on an international trip, say ten hours or more while sleeping, they are not as comfortable as the Bose model in that the ear pieces are more solidly constructed. This may go back to the durability issue. All in all a great purchase that I would do again in a heartbeat!
Great noise-reduction headphone for the price July 5, 2008 I have not try this headphone on a plane yet. However, for regular use the sound quality and accoustic for Audio-Technica ATH-ANC7 is much better when the switch for Active Noise-Cancellation is turned "On". The design of the headphone with over the ears fit quite well and comfortable to wear over a long period of time. For the money that I paid for this headset ($120), they are worth every penny. The sound quality is right up there with the Bose QC2 or 3 except ANC7 use 1 single AAA battery that can be easily replaced while Bose do not use AAA battery but rechargeable battery. If the battery is out of juice, you will have to find a place to recharge the battery. All in all, this is a great headphone for it price. I can buy 3 sets for the price of one Bose headphone.
WE HAVE A WINNER HERE............... July 3, 2008 I SPENT DAYS RESEARCHING NOISE-CANCELLING HEADPHONES. FINALLY I FOUND A U TUBE VIDEO USING A DUMMY HEAD WITH A MICROPHONE INSIDE IT, AND A NOISE MACHINE MAKING AIRCRAFT AND VARIOUS NOISES. THE VIDEO SHOWED MANY OF THE BRANDS ON THE HEAD AND THE SOUND READINGS, THE AUDIO-TECHNICA ATH-ANC7 PHONES CUT THE NOISE AS GOOD AS THE TWO TOP RATED BOSE MODELS DID. FOR THE MONEY THIS WAS A GREAT BUY. RECIEVED THEM TODAY,AND THEY WORK, ALMOST A 85 PLUS REDUCTION IN NOISE...................
Good for the price July 3, 2008 I got my ATH-ANC7 and had to return them because the right channel was bad. I would get a lot of loud scratching and popping noises. Amazon sent me a new pair straight away.
The sound quality is not spectacular but it's good. The noise canceling function does a pretty good job. They won't block noises like talking but they do a good job of reducing back ground "hums" like a fan or a running dishwasher.
Good performance in flight July 3, 2008 I bought these along with the more expensive Able Planet Clear Harmony Active Noise-Canceling Headphones, and after comparing them in action, chose to return the Able Planet 'phones and keep these. When used at home these Audio-Technicas did a good job filtering out the noises of air conditioner and fans - which I had turned on loud as a test - and also produced true clear sound from my MP3 player (with the noise canceling turned off and turned on).
I have now used these headphones on two short (1.5 hours each) commercial flights and was pleased with their noise canceling functions. They did *not* eliminate all ambient noise, but did eliminate most of the plane's underlying engine noise, and certainly improved my flight experience - both when used with my iPod to listen to music, and with no sound input (just to reduce the noise).
Sadly, I didn't take a minute to put the phones back into my carryon bag when leaving the plane at the end of the second flight (just looped them around the outside of the bag/handles), and somewhere along the way they were lost. My bad. I am really sorry to have lost these headphones. Rather than order another set of these phones, I may buy a similar but significantly less expensive product available at a local store right now: the Philips SHN9500 Active Noise Canceling Headphone. I will be taking some long international flights in a few months and hope to use noise canceling headphones then, to reduce some of the stress and fatigue.
Whatever headphones I buy next time, I will surely be more careful to stow them away when traveling.
