Western Digital 500GB Elements External Hard Drive October 6, 2008 Excellent product. Plugged into USB and started using. Totally reliable for first 2 months. Amazon is a winner.
Good value and performance; no power switch or software. October 4, 2008 So far (less than one week), the drive works well, is very quiet, and only gets a bit warm. This is compared to the hot, loud drive it replaced (LaCie Porsche 500GB that died after the click of death at 18 months). There is no power switch but that seems to be OK so far. Amazon removed the pics with the power switch, but those pics are still on Buy.com and other sites. WD told me they are making this drive with no switch "because you don't need one." Hmmm....connected to my Apple Airport Extreme as a Time Machine drive, so I will see if really does shut off and on like they say....otherwise, best value in a 500gb. Oh, it comes with ZERO software and needs to be reformatted for a Mac with Disk Utility (easy stuff).
It does what it does... September 26, 2008 I bought this hard drive to back up my media and it does exactly that. I liked the fact that it was just 'Plug and Play'. I have absolutely nothing bad to say about this hardware. For the price, it's exactly what I needed! I may buy another should a need arise.
Works Fine September 25, 2008 I had no trouble getting this working and so far I haven't had any issues with it.
WD 500gb external hard drive September 17, 2008 I needed something to backup my files, mostly pictures and music. So I bought this external drive. Easy to hook up, on and off switch so I can just leave hooked up and use when needed. I have had for about 3 months and have backed up a few times with out any problems, not as fast as my internal hard drives, but adequate speed.
