Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
D-Link, an industry leader in networking, introduces the DWL-P200 Power over Ethernet (PoE) Adapter. The DWL-P200 delivers both data and electrical power to Ethernet-enabled devices using a single Ethernet cable. Using Power over Ethernet, you eliminate the need to place an Ethernet-enabled device, such as a wireless access point, near a power outlet, giving you more freedom in placement. The DWL-P200 Power over Ethernet (PoE) Adapter is simple to install, requiring no tools and no software. Its compact size makes implementation of the DWL-P200 easy. Plug the base unit into a power outlet, and then connect the terminal unit to your network device using any standard Ethernet cable. Once set up, the terminal device unit can output power to any compatible 5V or 12V Ethernet-enabled device. The DWL-P200 simplifies your installation of Ethernet-enabled devices, such as an Internet camera or wireless access points, by allowing you to place it beyond the range of standard power outlets. You can now mount these devices to a ceiling or outside without placing them near a power supply. With the DWL-P200 Power over Ethernet (PoE) Adapter, both power and data can be transmitted up to 328 feet (100m) using standard Ethernet cabling with virtually no reduction in data throughput. Use the DWL-P200 with Ethernet-enabled devices where power outlets are not readily available.

5 out of 5 stars this saves a lot of time   April 14, 2008

I am using this to power a network camera out in the front of my house. It makes it possible to run just one cable to the unit. No power near the item you want to power, no problem. just make sure the item runs on either 5v or 12v DC..

3 out of 5 stars Compatiblity Alert   December 31, 2007

This product is not 802.3af PoE compliant. That means you must use the included terminal unit with the included base unit. If you get a PoE switch later on it will not work with the terminal unit. Why they did it that way, heaven knows. Given that, you might as well hack splitters on both ends yourself and save some money. No electronics would be involved just wiring in the AC adapter at the base end and wiring in the connector at the terminal end using the unused cat5 pair. With a long cable run the device might not work but you've got nothing to lose.

5 out of 5 stars Have over 7 sets in use   December 10, 2006

This is an Ideal POE adapter I have about 7 of these powering up my wireless APs in my network It is rock solid and reliable. I have 3 in outdoor locations one for over 2 years now and others in home and barn locations with no problems. Really Like these they are problem solvers. My longest link is a dwl-2100ap at the end of a 200 foot cat 5e run through the woods inside a rootenna from fab corp

4 out of 5 stars More than I needed   August 14, 2006

I really only needed a PoE power injector (the "base" unit) for powering a 3com NBX phone which takes its power directly from the ethernet. For that use, it works perfectly. The termination half gets tossed in a drawer...maybe I'll need it someday.
