Does what I expected and I'm happy...... September 30, 2008 This product did exactly what I needed it to do. Yes, I bought it for a limited application but I couldn't be happier with the result. Right out the box it installed quickly and easily. I was up and running with no hassles at 3 times the speed. My alternative was to run 150 feet of Cat-5 cable under the house and get 1/3 of the speed I ended up with. I have an old laptop that I've dedicated to stream video from my home office (where I have the xtreme n wireless router from d-link) to our "TV" room (where the laptop is attached to our bigscreen and surround sound). Great performance. We're very very happy with the result!
If your laptop has a PCMCIA slot, this will get you 300 Mbps. August 25, 2008 I have a D-Link DIR-655 router along with several DWA-142 USB wireless adapters. For my HP nc8430, I needed a Draft-N adapter to utilize the greater speed of the router. I bought this, then witnessed what another reviewer stated--it won't support speeds greater than 54Mbps if you use WEP encryption. So this past week or two, I've been changing out adapters and encryption so as to check his report and it's true--employ WPA-PSK (either WPA1 or WPA2), and you'll get 300Mbps. You have to have a PCMCIA slot in your laptop (maybe there's an equivalent Express slot model, I don't know, but this won't fit in it), but if you do, disable the wireless radio in your laptop and after installing D-Link's latest drivers, use XP's Zero Wireless Utility--I think I missed a word there--to configure it (ah, Configuration). After that, you'll be flying. Shop prices--these things are all over the place, but the technology--Draft or not--is stable and secure.
Great Card, Good Range August 15, 2008 I was quite happy with this card, its range met my expectaions and is much better then the G standard. I held a speed of 54mbps for much longer distance compared to my Linksys wireless G card.
Excellent speed for wireless. Works flawlessly with amazing range! May 31, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I got this wireless cardbus adapter to use with my old (Media Center) laptop and was happily surprised that it consistently provides a 300 Mbps signal at a significant distance from the base unit, much farther than anything I previously have used and I have been using wireless routers since they first came out. I have never been happier with any wireless router and card as the D-Link Xtreme N Wireless as neither the router or adapter have failed me once and have provided astounding speeds. I purchased the Xtreme N router, cardbus adapter, and PC card when this first came out. D-Link has upgraded all drivers so now the cards work with all versions of Windows, not that I have had any problems of that sort. This is an excellent card that provides some of the fastest speed available and is well worth the cost. This has never slowed (any of) my computers as some other reviewers have claimed so they may have some other underlying related problem. If you are in the market for a speedy router and card I highly recommend this unit. It is flash upgradeable once the N standard is finally set in 2009 so you won't have to buy another unit when the N standard is finalized.
Card works great on Windows XP April 12, 2008 I am using this card on a Windows XP laptop and it works great. The signal strength seems excellent - I can go anywhere in my house or outside with a strong signal received. I am using the DLink DIR-655 Wireless N router with this card and have had no issues.
