The slim, compact DSC-W55 model sports 7.2-megapixel imager and precision Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar lenses. 2 out of 5 stars whoops, not what I thought   August 24, 2008
I must admit that after first purchasing this camera I thought it was a fairly good purchase, however after a recent trip to Disney World with the kids I have to express my new opinion and its not good. After our return home I attempted to print out some of our memories and found that the pictures, which looked wonderful on the viewfinder and on the computer, were of the poorest quality. We bought this camera to replace a cheap 3 mp Kodak easy shot, I wish I still had that camera. The kodak's printed shots far surpassed the Sony (both from the same printer). Needless to say we are in the market again for a new camera. Unfortunately one area you dont want to go wrong, especially with the kids, is with a camera.

1 out of 5 stars Sony is trash!   August 23, 2008
Six months after purchasing this camera the lens fails to open leaving me with a $200.00 (more when you consider memory stick and case) piece of junk. Google "How to fix a stuck lens on a Sony DSC-W55" and you will see what a common problem this is. My advice is to steer clear of all Sony products as they appear to care little about quality.

4 out of 5 stars So close to perfect !!   August 12, 2008
Love this camera! Great pictures, features and usability. The only [huge] problem is the battery pack and not being able to use basic AA batteries. Even with buying 2 battery packs and trying to always keep one charging, we are always running out of battery power at key times, and often the backup battery is not on hand. Missed a lot of great shots that way. Would be the PERFECT camera if you could just use AA batteries.

3 out of 5 stars Worth the money?...maybe. Worth your time trying to figure out how to download the pictures onto your computer?...no.   July 27, 2008
I loved the camera until I couldn't download the pictures onto the computer. Why buy such a great camera for such a great price that wont even let you download the pictures onto your computer?...because all it leads to is great disappointment. I think a great picture phone would even be better than this camera.

3 out of 5 stars warning   July 24, 2008
I bought this camera last december for an incredible price, it's a wonderful camera, worthy the money I paid for it BUT...you need to be warned, today my camera just stopped working for no apparent reason, when I turn on the camera the lens come out and go back at least 3 times, an "access" legend appears on the screen and finally the camera starts beeping and says turn off and turn on again, you can go and see the stored pictures but you can't take pictures anymore.

The reason I am warning you is because while searching ways to fix it I learned that this is a very common problem with this camera, SONY needs to take care of this issue.
