Combining the features and benefits of the two technologies, this DVD/VCR combo offers a high-end DVD video output, MP3 music playback from homemade CD-Rs DVD-R/RW playback, and compatibility with VHS tapes. It?s everything you need in a compact unit.Progressive Scan: Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, giving you higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts. Seemed ok AT FIRST! August 7, 2008 I purchased this unit during the '06-'07 Christmas season. I was looking for an inexpensive unit, since I heard (and continue to to this day to) that DVD/VHS combos tend to be very touchy. I had a fair sized VHS collection that I wanted to be able to view, while not owning many DVD's, so for the price I figured I would give it a chance. MISTAKE! The few DVD's did play well, and the functionality was good. But the VHS never worked that well, even tapes that I had with little to no play on them yielded not much more than static. There is no tracking adjust! So I resided myself to having a junky 70$ DVD player. Well, after I moved to a new residence, after plugging in the unit the VHS section began to spit back out any tape that I put in. Then the unit began to make a loud clacking noise and power off. I moved my belonings myself and know for fact that the player never even endured the slightest bump while it was repacked in the factory packaging during the move. Now, I cannot even use the DVD function as well as the pathetic VHS side of this unit!!!
Bottom line; I wouldn't own another of these models if I were PAID 70$!!!
As cheap as it's price July 29, 2008 Bought this VCR/DVD combo at deep discount so I wasn't expecting much. So, I wasn't surprised when I found out there was no antenna connection. Had to hook up an RF Modulator (and before this, I had no idea what an RF Modulator was - so, I guess I did learn something). Then, after two months of use, the DVD player gave up the ghost. Nothing. I had to take the unit apart just to retrieve my DVD.
If you're looking for a cheap, short term solution until you get something nicer, then this is your unit. If you want to impress your friends by using the term RF Modulator at your next party, this is your unit. Otherwise, don't bother.
No problem June 14, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Although I am 'electronically challenged' when I called the help number the whiz-kid on the other end of the phone know precisely what was going on just by telling him what appeared on the screen. The machine plays perfectly whenever I use it.
it doesnt even deserve one star January 7, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Unhappy can't begin to describe my feelings towards this product. First, the dvd player died. It made a puttering noise after I took out a dvd I had just watched and that was the end. A few days later, the entire machine died. I couldn't turn it on and it ate a tape. Never will I buy Sylvania again.
Works well December 28, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This player works well. I have two issues with it. 1.) the width is wider than 19" called out in the specs, not much wider, just enough to make it not fit in my entertainment center 19" opening. 2.) the remote is complicated, and not conventional. All works well, but you don't get what you don't pay for. I wanted an inexpensive unit as not to wear out the Sony DVD Recorder, and play VHS tapes. That is what I got, and I am happy with it.
