5 out of 5 stars Very practical small camcorder!   August 12, 2008

It does what it's suppose to do and at a very good price $80(8/10/2008). I was going to buy a canon SD750 for $170 because it's about the same size and takes pretty good video too but I decided to get the small wonder. It's much simpler to use and I don't worry too much about my kids using it as well since it is so cheap. It's still capability is useable only for the web (1-megapixel). The video is not as good as a minidv camcorder, but it's not too bad really. My computer does not have a firewire port and I'm not savy enough with electronics to get my minidv tapes onto my hard drive. My kids love the small wonder and use it all the time. I tried the flip mino but didn't think it was worth the extra bucks ($150) and less features ie non-removable battery, no way to expand it's memory and no still capability. My family takes more video with the small wonder because it's small and cute too.

5 out of 5 stars A great and practical little package   August 11, 2008
This small cam-corder is great. Very easy to use, very practical and fits in my purse. I take it every place I go and I love downloading my pictures or movies to my computer. It si so simple but so practical.

pros; small, cute, good price (at first glance)

cons; horrendous pics; both still and motion. resolution is dismal. how anyone could say it ws near dvd quality astounds me-as one reviewer stated. the audio is virtually useless, and diminishes from near zero to sero as the distance from the mike increases-at 10 feet youo hear almost nothing-recording a band playing would leave you very frustrated and disappointed. it also sucked up my batteries like a kid with an ice cream cone-thankfully for those that can be recahrged. a person sitting on a floral sofa had the flowers in focus but not them, they were totally fuzzy and blurred under both web quality and high quality..moving the camera to get the person in focus still had them VERY fuzzy-hard to look at without the eyes getting sore/tired from seeing such a blurry pic.
i only bought this when the price dropped to eighty...mistake, it is hardly worth it at even thirty, and then it's just be something to keep in the glove compartment in case of an accident/emergency. i knew this camcorder would notgive great pics, but certainly the low quality surprises me, how low will you go in quality...

i will send this back and spend a little more.

addendum: took it to a club; horrible, you can barely make out the faces of the performers, either in WQ or HQ; grainy pics, and the video made the people moves like they were jerky, not normal movements of human beings. then i took it outdoors and filmed; again horrible detail. in WQ you could not make out rocks on the ground, a rosemary plants was very blurry as to be near not reconizeable...in HQ there was not much difference either. and the sound from the band at the club was distorted and sounded as if it came from a turntable at the wrong speed...and to hear the music i had to turn up the tv to full volumne and even then is was middling in hearing levels.

this camera i would never use even at thirty, the pics, shown to anyone would be embarassing.

3 out of 5 stars Small Wonder is just ok...but read my follow-up.   July 31, 2008

The RCA Small Wonder is not as great as I thought it was going to be.

I was excited when I read the reviews, but I should have looked around the www a bit more to see how it works with Mac before placing my order.
The reason why I opted for this cam instead of the Flip was because of the removable card...turns out its a major pain to take the card out, not just a pop-out-the-side one like I thought it would be...my fault for not doing more research though.

Actually, it works ok with Mac, you simply plug it in and you can easily get the files and drag them onto the desktop. You can even open up the video in any number of programs that play AVI files, but I don't seem to get any audio in any app besides VLC...I open the RCA video files in Quicktime Pro, Final Cut Pro, whatever, there's no audio, this means I can't edit! Pretty much why I bought this!
If I could edit the video files, it would get 5 stars... can anyone help?

Also, the still pictures that it takes aren't great...think of a 1 MP cam-phone.

Should've gotten Ultra Flip instead.

Follow-up comment...

I found a great way to convert any file into any format!
VisualHub (forgot I even had this), will do just that. Now I'm able to take the AVI files that the Small Wonder utilizes, and convert them into DV for use in Final Cut Pro or iMovie.

Very pleased with my RCA Small Wonder now!

Only wish I could bump my rating of this cam up 1 star...

4 out of 5 stars Great Video recorder, but uses MicroSD memory, not SD.   July 30, 2008

Easy to use and also takes still pictures. But, be SURE to buy micro SD memory cards (thumb nail size) not the regular (thumb size) memory card.
