Excellent Flash. June 15, 2008 This is an excellent flash. It makes a huge difference over the built in one.
Super nice addition June 14, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I really hate my built in flash on the D40. I have a lens cap on my 18-55mm lens, which when zoomed out blocks the flash for that part of the picture. I wanted a external flash anyways and didnt feel like spending the 300 for the SB-800 or the 50 for the cheap flash that just places the flash higher on the camera.
I reviewed the 400, 600, and 800 and found the 600 to suit my needs best. Im on somewhat of a budget so its price is fine for me and also it has most of the features the 800 does, just not quite as much control/power.
The bounce this one can do is really amazing to watch. I was messing around with the angles and had my brother stand somewhere while i fired some shots. With each angle i moved up there was less and less of the shadow of him in the picture.
Im really glad i picked this one up, and if you are on a budget and need a flash, the 600 will suit your needs. If you have the cash get the 800 of course, but there is nothing wrong with the 600 for more "beginner" photographers.
SB-600 used as remote flash June 11, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Very happy w/this flash. I use to supplement my sB-800 as a remote flash. It set up w/out a hitch and works as described. I have not used it as my main flash and do not intend to, so I will not comment on that.
Nice function for the price point June 8, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The SB-600 is a good value flash. Sure there are better flashes; their costs reflect it. The SB-800 is a better featured more powerful flash. However, when you can buy almost two SB-600's for 1 sb-800 it seems like a better deal. It's also much better than the SB-400 for the reasons below.
Three things it has from the SB-400: Power, full manual mode, and tilt AND swivel for bouncing. You can also use the SB-600 off camera with optical triggers, ebay triggers, pocket wizards, sync cables, and any sort of other trigger as long as you adapt it to the hotshoe.
Three main things it's missing from the SB-800: SU4 optical trigger isn't built in, commander mode(doesn't matter on some bodies), and a PC/Sync port.
All of these can be worked around in one way or another, it really depends what you are doing.
Great June 8, 2008 This is a real great dedicated flash. I had the SB-400 but upgraded to this one and like it so much more. The tilt is great. And real good control using my Nikon D80. And a real great price from amazon compared to other sites.
