Just buy it. $70 and you'll love it. March 10, 2006 10 out of 11 found this review helpful
What can I say about this lens? Well......Let me say this. Ever since I bought this lens, this is the only lens I use for the portrait shots.
So easy to use. The only thing you have to do is to change the aperture per number of people. Remember, it's pretty much wide open and at 50mm fix focal length, so, when you shoot more than two people, even if they stand back to back, one of them will be much blurry. Here's what my experience told me:
1.8: 1 person 2.0: 2 people side by side 2.5: 2 people back to back 2.8: 3-5 people
You don't really have to buy the 50mm f/1.4. This lens will do the same job. The only thing you won't like is the lack of USM and makes this lens a bit noisy. Other than this, this is perfect.
Best for the Money March 10, 2006 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Images with this lens are RAZOR sharp, cant ask for more out of a lens. Would like it to have a metal mount, but for the money you cant complain... would have paid twice this if need be. Actually... I bought two. One for my father because he was so impressed with the lens: and he was a pro for 20 years shooting with only AT-X glass.
Not bad but it could be better. March 4, 2006 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
I use this lens with a Rebel XT. This is not a bad lens for under $80. It works very well in low light conditions and takes sharp photos.
The only problems I have with this lens is that the auto focus is not great. In very low light conditions the auto focus has some difficulty finding the focus. This lens is 52mm meaning that I need to buy filters specifically for it rather then use my existing 58mm filters.
The plastic body does not seem to be a problem as far as quality goes. It is about the same quality as the stock 18-55mm lens that came with my rebel. So far that lens has held up very well.
I am going to keep this lens and count it among my better purchases. It opens up a world of options and possibilities.
Good product, GREAT PRICE. March 3, 2006 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
I'm not going to sit here and tell you this is the best quality lens ever created but I dont have to. At this price it is cheap enough to find out for yourself. The quality of the lens is (IMO) 3Star but the price makes it 4 star. It has some of the highest price point vs quality ratio of most lenses I've seen. Yes I recommend this product as a good prime lense. Just dont expect a $1500 lense but you are getting alot more lense then what you pay for.
Cons: plastic body, MF ring hard to reach.
