 Great Item for Taking Those Self Photos ! July 26, 2008
This is a great little tripod. It is EXTREMELY manipulatable. You can bend the "legs" in an unlimited combo of spaces. They can be wrapped around poles, bend to steady things, and completely customizable. I highly recommend this item.

From the picture I wasn't sure what to make of this gadget. When it arrived I excitedly looked open the box and uncovered something resembling a tech version of a monkey's paw. A tripod type device that screws onto your camera or various electronics via two interchangeable attachments. I tried it out on my Nikon digital camera. It held the device like it was supposed to but it looks REALLY tacky. More of a case of function over form. I just couldn't recommend it.

Joby has put together an ingenious little product that provides a stable platform to mount a lightweight digital camera or serve as a stand for an iPod.
The Gorillapod is made up of a number of rubberized plastic balls that each are moveable. The result is a product that you can wrap around posts, chairs, trees, etc. You can also turn it into a plain old miniature tripod.
The package comes with three different connectors that snap into the Gorillapod. There's a suction cup (for mounting an iPod/iPhone), a permanent adhesive connector (for attaching to a device), and one with a standard tripod mount for attaching a digital camera or any other device that supports a standard tripod mount.
PROs
The Gorillapod is well constructed and very easy to stabilize. It is flexible but seems to hold the position it is set to. It doesn't take much work to balance it on its three flexible legs, and it's even easier to wrap it around something snugly. The suction cup has a little lever to lock it into place and was very well thought out. It attached itself securely to my iPhone 3G.
CONs
Not many but I do have a few. First it would have been nice if the Gorillapod folks came up with some way to keep all of the little connector pieces together. I know I will lose the suction cup connector or the tripod connector. It's just a matter of time! As good as it feels now, I wonder how rigid it will be after a few months of continually readjusting. It already feels noticeably loser than when I opened the package earlier this evening.
CONCLUSION
I am very pleased with the Gorillapod and plan to use it quite extensively. I am most excited about the fact I can mount my video light on it and be able to attach it to just about anything in a room. This particular version of the Gorillapod is designed for lightweight devices only, so be sure to look for one of the heavier duty models if you plan to use larger devices like a digital SLR.

What a great invention! This is an improved camera tri-pod that's been updated so it can be used with all kinds of electronics such as palm pilot, ipod, cell phone, etc as well as a point and shoot camera.
For the camera, it is useful because you can be in the photo as well . You can put it on a table but you can also wrap it on a fence or a branch or place it on an uneven surface. Group photos without one member having to be missing to take the photo. So cool!
For video ipods, you can watch movies on a plane without having to hold it. You can put it on the traytable and just watch. The suction grip is included and is pretty sturdy. My husband likes to keep his ipod touch on his desk and can view it without having to hold on to it. Very useful.
It also comes with clip attachments for other electronics.
I would recommend it even just use with the camera alone! Love it!
