40 D shade cover October 3, 2008 If you are like me, you must feel a bit of a chill as your expensive DSLR hangs out with the lovely LCD screen exposed to various potential hazards. While this shade is ostensibly to permit easier viewing in bright sunlight ( a task it performs admirably), I tend to value it for the protection it offers the screen. Well designed and priced.
Better Than Expected! August 12, 2008 The Delkin Pop-up Shade for the Canon 40D has surpassed my expectations for a product of this type. First, once it's installed, you barely notice that it's there and it just feels like its part of the camera. The construction is top-notch and the functionality is solid also. But the feature I like most, and one that I was not expecting, is the ability to detatch just the pop-up cover but the see-through cover stays in place to continue providing protection to your LCD display. This only makes sense because at night there really is no need to use the pop-up feature since there is no sun to obscure your viewing of the LCD. The last shade I had (from HoodMAN) did not have a removable pop-up. To sum it all up, this is a product that I feel any Canon owner (or camera owner) can make good use of and benefit from. Excellent product!
Pop-up shade July 20, 2008 Well made custom product that looks like it came with the 40D. Does an excellent job of protecting the LCD screen. Buttons work fine. Installation was easy. Only problem is the glass is very reflective so that even though the shade blocks the sun, the glass acts like a mirror so you see your face when you are looking at the LCD screen outdoors. Shade can be removed if you are using it indoors and the glass will still protect your screen. All in all a great product.
construction leaves a lot to be desired July 10, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Mine broke the day after I installed it on my 40D, just by opening it the right side spring popped out and this is not user-repairable.
Many other Delkin shades seem more durable but this one for the 40D does not seem to be made as well. I will be waiting to see if Hoodman produces a pop-shade for the 40D.
The eye-piece and buttons are identical to Canon so no complaints there. All buttons worked.
Very Clever little device May 22, 2008 For the money, it's hard not to go with one of these. Obviously daylight will affect the vision through the 3" LCD and if you use live mode as I do a lot, it is extremely helpful. If it was $200, I'd question the value, but at the price, it's cheap enough to try and see how it does for you.
