Best Cell Phone I have ever Owned April 27, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I absolutely love this cell phone. Its got just about every feature you could ever dream of. For the first time I am able to use a cell phone for just a phone. Its got really great reception (almost always clear) and am able to get a signal just about any where. There were lots of places where I couldnt recieve a signal before with my Motorola v360 and I thought It was my carrier but once I got this phone I havent any problems. Going from no bars to about 5 or 6 bars. The mp3 player is great with touch screen and the fact that you dont have to open the flip to use the mp3 player. Sound quality is also pretty good considering its a cell phone mp3 player. I do wish the mp3 player was able to play protected music especially from iTunes. Also the cameera feature is great since you dont have to open the flip to use it. Dont get me wrong I still prefer my stand alone mp3 player and digital camera but its nice to have these features in a cell phone. The HSDPA is pretty fast and much faster than EDGE which I used to use before this. Also has other great features like a nice video player and handy voice recorder. It also has the full version of the opera web browser which no other mobile device has. The only other better mobile browser is the safari one on the iPhone and iPod touch.Theres only a few negative points about this phone. The battery life is pretty bad but considering its a 3G phone and has all these high end media features it would be expected. Also something I missed from my motorola v360 is that when you use the speakerphone I was able to close the flip and still use it. While with this phone as soon as you close the flip it terminates the call. Another downside of this phone is that it only comes with 8 ring sounds for your ringer. Do wish it came with more regular ring sounds.
BEWARE OF BUYING AT AMAZON!!! April 23, 2008 7 out of 27 found this review helpful
I am not ranting about the phone but this website and how they scam buyers. If I can only give a NO STAR, I would. I wanted to get the Motorola V9 and thought I found the best deal at this website for $100 w/ a 2 yr contract extension on my AT&T plan w/ free shipping. The phone with its features were displayed right in front of me. So, excited and happy with my find, I finally decided to upgrade my phone and locked myself in a 2 yr contract (w/c I've never done in my 5 yr service w/ AT&T). I know my phones because I worked as a sales rep at Cingular for 3 1/2 yrs. So there was no way in the world that I would mistaken the V9 (w/c is a flip touch screen phone) with a Z9 (w/c is a slider phone). When I got my package, I was so mad to see a Z9 phone in the box! Why would I pay $100 for a Z9 and get myself into a 2 yr contract when I can easily get that phone for $200 in an AT&t store near my work? I get 40% handset discounts through my company. I trusted Amazon to deliver to me what was on the starting page of their product offer just like what you see here. The V9 was even $50 after a $50 rebate on a new 2 yr activation. I even checked the rebate for it! Now, when I check, they don't even have any offers for the V9 through At&T. I have never had this horrible experience with Amazon. I've been buying my stuff from this site and this is what I get? I will never again buy anything from this website. Now, I have to pay from my own pocket for the shipment of the wrong phone that was sent to me and I have to waste time to call Amazon to complain and AT&T to undo my contract. I should have listened to the big number of people who had nightmares about their purchase at AMAZON. What a shame!
Razr2 V9 from Amazon is pretty flat April 21, 2008 3 out of 10 found this review helpful
I just got RAZR2 V9 like a week ago. Without even activating the pan I am returning the phone. Except the music player that can be controlled through the front LCD panel, all other features are pretty much like Razr V3. I had V3 for almost 2.5 years and I thought V9 would be excellent. I thought V9 has controlls like messages, contact list and music player that can be controlled through the LCD, but you can only access music player. All other features are pretty much diables. Crappy ringtones, no wall papers nothing. You have to pay for everything.
If you are expecting something that upgrades V3 about this phone, make sure you will get all the features that you want. Bottom line is V9 from AMAZON has no features that other providers like Verizon and Alltel are ofering for this phone.
Not very impressed April 14, 2008 8 out of 9 found this review helpful
Believe it or not, this is my first Razr style phone. I've never been inclined to have too many bells and whistles since I have no desire to use my cell as an internet device/GPS system/or IM client. I just need it to have good call quality and a good camera/video.
I'm coming from Verizons service and I used an outdated LG-VX5300 clamshell. It was no frills but I loved the feel of that phone in my hand and the call quality was fine. I had planed on getting an LG-VX8300 when I renewed with Verizon but moving to PA changed that. I was always in a roaming area once I moved. This wasn't good since I couldn't send or receive pictures, and lost alot of Verizons benefits while roaming. Since my contract was up I went with ATT.
I was interested in the V9 for the large screen and the CrystalTalk feature that is supposed to enhance call quality. I was also looking into a Blackberry Curve but was always more of a flip phone kinda guy so went with the V9.
The color isn't too shabby although I really wish they would of had a darker smoke color, or even metallic. The phone has two dedicated buttons right next to the send and end call buttons that connect you to the internet. I read alot of negative reviews saying they would get $10/month in charges just from accidentally hitting those buttons. What I did is go under the security menu and make a PIN number for any internet related activities. Now when I accidentally hit those buttons a screen comes up asking for my PIN. No more accidental internet charges!
I really liked the idea of having a touch screen on the front but its very limited. Its only used for rewinding, fast forwarding, and playing music. They really could have done SO much more with this feature. I hear this is a limitation that ATT imposed as other carriers V9 models can do more with the touch screen.
The call quality to me wasn't very impressive. From the reviews I read I thought it would be very clear and loud. I have the volume on max and do not think the calls are loud at all. I can hear my callers but it was nowhere near what I was expecting. I don't live in a 3G area but my phone constantly changes from the Edge network to some other lower grade network. Every 30 seconds or so I can hear a weird silence on the line for a split second. I read this is the phone making a handoff to another network, all I know is it's annoying.
I don't know if the change between the networks is eating my battery but its HORRIBLE! I read plenty of complaints that 3G will kill your battery but I don't ever use 3G. I also have my screensaver off, no bluetooth enabled, and have my backlight to the lowest setting. I didn't even get 24 hours before my battery was almost dead. I made no more than 5 minutes of phones calls but I did spend alot of time in the menus and configuring the phone. I still think thats a very short battery life. And the recharge took quite along time as well. I plugged it in about half an hour before I had to leave the house. When I went to grab it, it was still charging. I didnt want to unplug on halfa charge so left the phone at home. My old phone took like 10 minutes to recharge!
As I said, this was my first Razr. I liked the slim design but not so much the width. I have fairly small hands and holding this phone is kind of uncomfortable. I am actually debating whether to keep this phone based largely on that fact. I prefer the smaller clam shells but theres not much to choose from right now with ATT in that area. I was able to easily open my old flip phone with one hand using my thumb. This phone requires two hands for me. I can use my thumb but its awkward and my thumb scratches across the bottom of the internal screen when using one hand.
The ringtones are HORRIBLE. I have never been a fan of wacky ringtones. I always used a normal phone ring included with the phone. This phones ringtones all sound muffled! Thankfully ATT included a free ringtone so hopefully I can find a basic ringtone online that sounds decent.
For people that are into ringtones will be disappointed in the restrictions placed on them. The ringtones have to be under a certain size, a certain quality, and certain length. I've read people having alot of problems getting the phone to accept downloaded/imported ringtones. I tried downloading a voice tone from ATT but it kept saying my phone was not compatible. Music is much easier to import and plays fine. I really wish my phones ringer would play as loud as songs do, but for whatever reason they do not.
I didn't think the camera was that great. For the life of me I cant figure out why they didn't include a flash! They do have a bunch of different modes to choose from to tweak how the pics will look though. With the right lighting the pictures would be OK with a very steady hand. Any movement at all would cause bad motion blur. No auto focus makes things worse. The zoom feature is pretty good but again, having no auto focus makes things very grainy when zoomed in and the slightest movement will cause bad blurring. I only messed with the video aspect for a short time but it looked fine as I wasn't expecting much from the video camera.
Using Motorola Phone Tools has been great in transferring files to and from my phone and computer. I transferred my pictures, wallpaper, songs, and address book without a hitch. I only ran into a problem when trying to import a mp3 ringtone to my phone. I kept getting a codec error. The file played fine on my computer and in phone tools but it just wouldn't transfer to my phone. I read this is a problem with Vista so I will try again using my XP computer.
So in the end I'm up in the air as to what to do. If I purchased this from an ATT store theres no doubt I would swap it for a different model. I just don't know if I want to go through the online hassle of returning the phone to Amazon, having to cancel my service with ATT, then trying a different phone after 60 days. Apparently Amazon doesn't swap phones, only refunds purchases. Its not that the call quality is bad, it's just not as loud or clear as I thought it would be. The drop out sounds become annoying. Its like pressing the mute button for half a second every minute or so. Being that the phone is so wide it makes it a little awkward when holding. I was sold on this phone after reading reviews on the CrystalTalk and the great reception. I just don't see any improvement from my outdated LG. In fact, my old phone sounded louder and didn't have those dropouts. So while theres no really serious flaws it's not the phone I was expecting.
worse phone ever purchased April 12, 2008 4 out of 14 found this review helpful
This is worse phone ever purchased. I had Motorola Razor before, thought this might be better but no I was wrong, There is absolutely nothing special about this phone and its worse than Motorola Razor. 1.Weight: You can kill someone with this headset weighs 4.4 ounces, If I keep it in pocket seems as if I have extra iron balls. 2. Phone quality is worse person at other end can't hear anything. 3.Drop calls are unlimited!! While talking call gets disconnected 4.Battery life is very low 5.Dimension is almost equivalent to i-phone!! Overall phone is train wreck, waste of money
