3 out of 5 stars W370 Issues...?   April 5, 2008
4 out of 14 found this review helpful

I currently use a V176 cell phone that was "hot" in 2005. And I too had a
lot of "issues" with the "internet" I believe its a marketing issue that
pre-paid cell phone don't truly offer "internet" access but intra-net to
the main site for its ringtones, and services. That's the "nutshell" from
pre-paid, and contract agreement. You get what you pay for!

Sadly, most of the phones don't have much "room" on pre-paid unless you
are a professional hacker who can "upgrade" the phone's memory to handle
the internet. I wouldn't want internet anyway, I'd rather download the
ringtone I want to my pc, and use a mini-usb / usb connector adaptor to
"load" to the phone direct with the right software. I'd get with some
corporate executives or technical engineers to send me a CD or a web
link to download the phone connection software so I can connect my pc
to my phone, download the ringtone I want, and load it to the phone
directly. If I can't do that, then better get enough lawyers who are
versed in cell phone laws to convince otherwise. If you happen to know
of the Motorola Technical Engineers or Upper Crust management to make
this happen, let all of us "peons" know! :) It would be great if the
Motorola Corporation would get out of the clouds and be able to fix any
issues that need fixing. :)

I'd buy this phone from NET-10 simply because of the flexibility of
the network, and being pre-paid you get what you pay for. Much like a
Motel-6 commercial.. Clean, comfortable room, leaves the light on for
you, and basic cable package. Get what you pay for. If you want frills
and thrills, then go to Holiday Inn, or Ramada, or Best Western. :)

At any rate, if I wanted internet service, I'd make sure the phone
can handle today's webpages. I'd suggest to the marketing reps for any
cell phone company. Don't promise what you won't deliver. Don't say one
thing, and not provide reasonable service or guarantee.

4 out of 5 stars Great Reception- Some features crippled though :(   March 24, 2008

First of all, I bought my w370 at Wal-Mart because it included Double minutes for life for just 49.99. It's a great value for a prepaid phone, it like getting the phone for free.

Speaker phone is good (my primary reason for upgrading from v170)

Here are some of my disappointments with the phone.

1. USB port has been crippled by Tracfone, can be used for charging only, with special driver (not included).

2. You can only use the web browser on Tracfones web site, forget about downloading ring tones etc. from any other website.

3. Distinctive ring feature seems to revert back to default ring at some point, even when you have it set in phone book profile, seems like more of a software bug than anything.(Edit: I was able to get the distinctive ring working by removing and reinstalling the battery after all of the ring tones were assigned, I haven't had a problem since)

I have been able to email background pictures to the phone and use them successfully, but I haven't been able to successfully use any .wav sounds as ring tones as of yet.

Overall the phone looks good and is a great value for the money, especially if you don't mind disabled features

5 out of 5 stars Amazing phone for the price!   March 15, 2008

I just received my Motorola W370 earlier today and am blown away by this thing. It's lightweight and small, yet the flip design lets you open it so the earpiece is right by your ear while the speaker is right by your mouth. No more "toggling" back and forth as is needed with the non-flip phones of the same weight. The display screen is bright and crisp and easy to navigate. The sound quality is adjustable but it's just like talking on a regular land-line. I got mine through the Net10 provider as they offer 300 free minutes and 60 days of service plus this fantastic phone for only $49.99. You can read for yourself that it is web capable, if you should choose to do so---can't imagine why anyone would except in emergencies perhaps, due to the higher minute cost of web access. But, hey, it ain't a laptop. It's a really sleek cell phone that has all the bells and whistles you'll ever need for a price that won't break your bank. I already love this thing and would HIGHLY RECOMMEND it to anyone considering a reasonably priced cell phone with a reasonably priced prepaid service. Go with Net10. They are a sister of Tracfone so they have the same massive nationwide coverage, but with the simplicity of cost saving 10cents/minute anytime. Actually, on one of their plans you can get 7.5cents/minute, which is not bad at all. Whatever plan you get, you will not be disappointed with this phone.

5 out of 5 stars Great phone!   February 3, 2008

This is a really awesome phone! It gets really good service everywhere and its perfect for my needs! After you add the double minute card its only 10 cents a minute and 3 cents a text message. You can talk to 40 minutes a month and it costs you $4 or 400 minutes and its $40 a month. This phone really is great!

Pros: Flip phone
Pretty good signal
Good sound quality
Neat light icons
OK games
Web browser
Can download ring tones on the web
Slim

Cons: No external screen
Takes off too many units. Takes off .5 units to send and receive text messages.
Confusing
Can download ring tones on the web, but must download from the web on the phone, takes off units for using the web and an additional 23.9 units or so to download it.
