 Worst Cell Phone Ever September 9, 2008

This is the worst cell phone ever made. Do not buy this phone or you will regret it. The only people giving this phone a good review have either just unpacked it or work for Samsung.
I have been a Verizon customer for a number of years and I'm extremely surprised that they would sell such a POS. This phone has dropped more calls in a month than my Krzr did in a year. It does not work in most of my house where I had absolutely no problem with my Krzr. The touch screen is awful. It does not work consistently and will activate keys on the opposite side of the screen. It has an terrible problem of making calls when you put it in you pocket. The keyboard is useless, unless you have the fingers of a small child. When listening to music the phone will pause the music if a text message comes in and you have to clear the message to listen to music. This is extremely inconvenient when riding a motorcycle. And to top it off, the phone only comes with 3 ringtones. Yes folks that right, THREE ringtones. It has no ability to modify images as my Krzr did. You can only flip or rotate the photos, no re-sizing or cropping or any other image enhancement. Every day I have this phone I regret not exchanging it within the 30 day window. Buyer Beware.

NOTE: EDITED REVIEW - TWO STARS NOT FIVE - Having seen the phone I was seduced. Because Verizon has a 30 day try out, and having learned about a recent firmware fix that addressed the issues, I decided to try out the phone. After having the phone for about 3 1/2 weeks I returned it because I became frustrated in using the phone. This is one case in which the reviews were not wrong. Here are my findings.
PROS:
LOOKS - this is one sexy phone. Smaller than an iPhone but much much thicker. About as thick as a Voyager, but otherwise smaller. Very sleek, has a few dedicated buttons on the side (volume, etc.). The design is very appealling. Gets lots of comments on looks.
DISPLAY - the display is incredible. Bright, extremely well detailed and clear. Very comparable to the best out there. The display takes up nearly all of the face of the phone and works very very well. The fonts chosen for all of the displays are very clear and easy to read.
SLIDE OUT KEYBOARD - this is a must for me. And this keyboard is really really good. The side of the phone that abuts the keyboard is angled (the other side is not) to allow your fingers to type on the keyboard without hitting the phone. That's an example of the thinking that went into putting so many features in such a small package. The keyboard is nicely spaced and much easier to type on than that of my work Blackberry. The keyboard slides out very nicely.
SIZE - If you want a smallish phone with a touch screen, then right now, this is the only game in town.
INTERNET DOWNLOADS - the internet pages come with a full HTML browser and look great. Much better than my work Blackberry, and comparable to other good phones. The font is really good for reading pages on the small screen, but if you need to enlarge the pages, you can just use the volume rocker (up for increasing size, down for decreasing size). It doesn't have the wow factor of size scaling with your fingers, but it works well. You can move the page around by moving your finger on the touch screen (just like the iPhone).
VOICE DIALING - the phone has voice dialing which works very well without training.
CALL QUALITY - call quality is very good, but not exceptional. You can hear other people clearly and they can hear you. However, the call quality is not as clear as on my wife's no-frills phone which admittedly has exceptionally good call quality. On this phone, the call quality makes the "Pro" list just barely because call quality is very very important to me on a phone.
NEUTRAL FACTORS
PRICE - the price after rebate and taxes was less than 100, which is good for a phone of this kind right now. However, I am used to getting free cell phones, so paying for a phone was a little annoying.
SCREEN SIZE FOR CERTAIN PURPOSES- because of the phone's form factor, there is nothing that can be done about this, but the screen is a touch small for viewing internet pages, etc. I have no problem reading the pages, but some people who will do alot of browsing might opt for a bigger screen if this will bother them
OTHER FEATURES - the phone also has GPS, and a music player. I've not tried these features yet, so I can't review them. If I do use them, I will add them to my review, but generally, these are not features that I use on a phone. Phone does have some other interesting features such as a tip calculator, etc., which are pretty neat to use.
CONS -
TOUCH SCREEN - the touch screen on the phone worked poorly after awhile. This was even after the much vaunted firmware update. Happily this happened to me while I was still in the 30 day period. I got rid of this phone and went back to a hard button phone and could not be happier. I will not get a Verizon touch screen phone unless and until the iPhone comes to Verizon.
VERIZON INTERFACE - Verizon has some silly aspects to its interface that are annoying, such as the "Get It Now" menu being the first button on the settings menu, which you cannot change or delete. Also, the menus have been split up for no apparent reason other than to confuse the person who buys the phone. There is a glowing blue box in the middle of the screen, and this is a shortcut menu, but there is no indication anywhere on the phone that this is the case, so you have to learn this from the Verizon sales rep or from reading the manual, which you shouldn't have to do on a phone of this type.
SPECIAL FEATURES COST - using some of the other features, GPS, Internet, etc. is an added cost if you get the basic plan (like I have) so if you don't watch yourself, you can end up with a pretty high phone bill.
TOUCH SCREEN WITH SCREEN PROTECTORS - the screen protectors make the touch screen's poor response even worse.
---Overall, this good choice if you want a small touch screen phone. It gets annoying after the WOW factor wears off. I think that the phone has some functionality, but it is in the end defeated by the really annoying touch screen. Good, but I would suggest other better choices (Voyager, etc.)

I was so excited to get this phone. I have been a customer of Verizon for eight years and their network has never let me down. However, their choice of cell phones has always been a little disappointing. The last phone I had was an LG EnV. The keyboard and the interface was great, the technology left a lot to be desired. I went through three of them and ended up getting this phone after a serious complaint to Verizon. I thought to choose the Glyde because I was DONE with LG and I had a Samsung previously and it never let me down. I was apprehensive about the size of the keyboard, but I was seduced by the touch screen and its sleek good looks. Boy, was I LET DOWN. The only thing that seems to be slightly reliable it that tiny keyboard! I am on my second phone already and I have only had this phone for about two weeks! One day I woke up and my first one was completely dead. Wouldn't turn on or anything! It was such a hassle to go back to the store to get a replacement. My second one does not seem to be faring any better. The touch technology is terrible and doesn't respond half the time. Or it responds to a button half way across the screen! When it is opened, forget it. The touch screen barely works at all. It constantly makes calls when in my pocket and the autolock is going to be the death of me. It is absolutely annoying. Plus, you have to touch a million buttons just to do simple tasks like send a text or find recent calls. I miss my Send button sooooo much. This phone is definitely going back before my 30 day return policy expires. I have never hated a phone as much as I hate this one. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!

Dont buy this piece of trash!!!If you did return it within the 30 day period.HURRY!There is a glitch with the screen after about one month the screen will not work properly.No matter where you touch it it will select whatever it wants.I went through 3 of them with the same problem in just over 2 months.Tech support says there will be a program to fix this at the end of the month but who wants to wait for this and pray it works?
I missed the 30 day return period and Verizon wanted to keep replacing this phone with the same model. After 3x I had enough. I had to fight like hell to get something else.Only after trying to cancel all 4 lines on my account did they break down and give me another model.I will still go to another company after my contracts all run out because of this piece of trash product and Verizons POOR cust service.Way to go jerks!

I'm actually using my mothers account,but thats beside the point. My mom bought me the Samsung Glyde for my birthday, and i loved it. I loved the touch screen, the QWERTY keyboard, its compact size. However, I am going to return it tomorrow for either the Dare or the Voyager. The Glyde does not let you record your own ringtones. You can record "sounds", but you cannot set them as a ringtone, from what I know, the only way to get a new ringtone is to purchase it. And many times,the touchscreen is either unresponsive, or it responds in a different way than you chose. For example, if I'm on the main menu, and I want to go to Get It Now, sometimes it will select Messaging, even when you clearly put your finger over Get It Now.
A lot of people make the Glyde sound much worse than it is. I've heard that the QWERTY keyboard is too small for some, but my fingers are still growing, so its fine for me;) The phone did take a lot of getting used to, as I had a Motorola Razr before upgrading. The phone gets very frustrating at points, as I said, sometimes it doesn't respond in the manner you would like. But overall, it isn't a terrible phone, I'm just looking for something different.
