Motorola RAZR2 V9 Cell Phone April 5, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I ordered this phone, even though it was on back order, and I couldn't be happier. I have had many phones, but I am really amazed at this one. It is a beautiful color and I love the two big screens. I like it because it has some substance to it. Because it has a metal frame it is a little heavier than most, but I prefer that to a really light one. It does show finger prints really easy, but it's nothing that you can't wipe off. I just ordered a silicone "skinit" for it that should take care of the finger prints and I put anti glare screens on it, even though the inside one is glass. You can't be too careful. I have yet to download my music on it, but I have done some pictures and the colors are gorgeous and so clear; better than any phone I have seen. I have a Nikon Cool Pix digital camera and I have to say that this phone takes pictures as good as or better than my camera. I believe that anyone that is thinking about getting this phone should wait no longer.
Love it! April 3, 2008 I leaned towards this phone because I loved Motorola's first flip, way back when. Sturdy as hell & easy to use. I selected this phone...great color & size and feel. After using it a bit & discovering the USB adapter & mini adapter, head phone connector (All thru ATT) I thought, what an awesome gem!! Then 6 months later circumstances changed & I needed something I could connect to my work calendar but I didn't want one of the Palms......thru research I accidentally discovered I could keep my new phone! Hooks up with MS Outlook no prob..I can even use it as a jump drive if I wanted to. Although you are limited with the size of cards but that will change with time...they will get smaller too. I have had the phone for about a year & am still in love with it.....and I hated the Razr V3 in 6 months. The only downfall I found is I don't like the multi-listing in its address book. it is 9 listing for one name....so it dials the last number you called....you have to search thru the numbers under the name - I solved that by doing what I did on the old Razr, listing each "Brad's work" and "Brad's cel" to cut down on the searching. However it does have a voice dialing option I haven't been able to utilize so maybe that is where it comes into play - which makes sense. The screen is also wonderful - pictures come in great as well. And wayyyyyy too much more to list!!
I have to say Motorola landed an Awesome phone with this one. Or at least it certainly fits my needs.
Moto, I am sticking with you!!
Excellent April 2, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
O.K. Most people have reservations about anything that is "new". However, this phone right out of the box impressed me with its hefty size, weight, and color. It appears to be encased in a heavy diecast metal that reminds me of a matchbox car (slick) feel. I know that is a generic description, but it is a fine work of craftmanship. I used to own a Nokia 6120 (old and outdated) and it broke at the hinge joint. This phone feels solid in the mechanics and layout. Keypad looks good also; I don't see it failing on me. (Some people might get defective equipment-some reasons that electronic items break so easily).
The menu selection is nicely laid-out. I didn't have any problems going through and changing all the personal selections, such ringtones, icons, and browsing. Also, the screen is HUGE! It is really nice to see a total package such as this come along, where the keypads are nicely spaced and the screen is beautiful to view in daylight or night.
I only have two complaints (albeit, very small complaints):
It only accepts a 2GB MicroSD card. It would be nice to expand to 4GB.
The charging door on the left side appears very flimsy and easily breakable. However, since it is recessed into the metal frame, it might not be subject to tearing or shearing forces.
That is about it. I find that it does things better and faster than other cell phones out there. I also find it to be more intuitive to use and very stylish to boot! It is definately not a text messaging device, so don't buy it if your a heavy text person. Also, just like the reviews from other people, this phone is light-years ahead of the former Razrs (V3xx or V3). It is better built and easier to use.
Outstanding! Truly an Outstanding Handset! April 1, 2008 I have owned this phone now, for over two weeks. I waited patiently for a deal on this phone to show up, somewhere at some point. it was a long wait. a close friend of mine writes the code for moto phones, and i got to take a sneak peek at this phone early on, before its release. i got to see it up close, and in person, and ever since, i wanted one. i knew that when this phone came out, i was going to buy one at some point.
Now, it took forever in my opinion for it to get to an affordable price. I'm so very glad i waited, and i would do it again! this phone was worth the wait! Truly, i am impressed as can be with this phone, even though i am a bit irked at the wireless carriers complete in ability to take advantage of all its cool and amazing features.
I got this phone on amazon.com for $50, and with a $50 rebate, so all in all the phone is free as soon as my rebate comes back to me. I wanted more memory with the phone than the standard memory on board the phone so i went ahead and bought a 2 Gb Micro SD memory card by Sandisk. I purchased it through a third party on amazon.com and got that for $12 shipped! so all in all, the price has just been phenomenal!!! i could not be more pleased with the end price of this phone. it's almost too good to be true.
However, i did order the phone, and the deal is legit. i got this phone for 12 bucks. it came in the original ATT box, with the plastic still on it, and all the parts still encased in protective plastic. the phone was truly a new, never used, in the box cell phone as amazon.com promised. This is not a cheap deal on a refurb, its the real thing.
The build quality on this phone is spectacular. The rubberized backing of the handset to make it non slip for sweaty hands, the integrated battery cover that is far better integrated than the Razr1, the look, the feel, the glass, the casing, everything about this phone is leaps better. up to and including the screen, the keypad, the hinge, the camera, the battery life, and quality of calls, its just amazing.
The CrystalTalk* feature is a godsend! i've never been on a cell phone that sounded so crystal clear. it really does what it promises here.
The Bluetooth is VERY fast. on average transferring an mp3 from my laptop to my old razr1 took about 30-45 minutes. This new Razr2 can do it in about 30-45 seconds, and I'm not exaggerating. i timed it, with several different size songs. this thing is FAST.
The internet speeds on the Edge and 3G networks are just awesome. a world of difference. truly. I can remember lags and wait times in excess of two or three minutes on my razr1 waiting for Gmail or yahoo mail to load up. This phone does it as fast as you push the buttons practically. its a very very short wait time. and the full html browser is wicked cool. it works flawlessly and is extremely simple to use and very effective!!
The instant messenger programs are really great! the connectivity, the ease of use and quick setup times make them a true lifesaver if you are on the go away from your computer. this phone is amazing in how connected it keeps you. surfing the web is extremely easy with this phone too. the webspeeds when i tested teh phone were somewhere between 2.5mb download, to 3.6 mb download depending on my locale and my network access in those locals.
The LCD, both inside and out is just gorgeous. the look and feel of them is really top notch! better than that of the iPhone for sure. The external buttons on the External LCD work flawlessly too and are very easy to locate and use, even for someone like me who has big clumsy fingers.
The keypad is easy to use too and is not the most intuitively set up, but is still a lot better set up than the Razr1 was. i like it and its improved a lot.
The menues are better and seem to be similar but more refined. the two soft keys at the top of the keypad help in navigating and have better menu options than the razr1 also.
The haptics is awesome. its a HUGE help! i really am impressed with that too, as well as the camera, the print command to bluetooth to a modern bluetooth capable printer (which i tested and worked perfectly) and the Voice dial feature is MUCH more easily used and much smarter than the original razr's too. way easier to use!
Text messaging is VERY easy with this phone. someone before me said this wasnt a good machine for texting but i dis agree. it took me about a week to adjust to it after the razr, but this thing is very easy and fluid to text with and messages come and go VERY fast. its easy to set up new messages and read incoming ones, to clear up the messages, and to find recipients when sending, and to insert data into texts. its very intuitive and easy to use the keypad too. this is a MUST for me, as texting is one of my top forms of communication.
The best part of this phone is the voice communications. the call clarity, the lack of dropped calls, etc, are first rate and top notch. better even then my landline at home. i didnt think call quality like this could be achieved with a wireless handset and motorola is to be commended for the job they did with this phone in that respect. its just unbeleivable until you hear the difference.
I finally got around to testing the mp3 player today too, and it works like a charm. the external buttons work awesome and are very easy to use and control the player with, and the music player is basic but has all the tools and options you need. its just right! and yes, the bluetooth to headset in stereo is there and it too is very impressive. it works great!
The memory card i bought, the Sandisk 2gb Micro SD memory card, popped into the slot in teh back of the phone beside the sim card, and was immediately recognized without issue. it works perfectly and even works out as an external storage device on my computer. i was worried, i run vista on my laptop, but it found the phone and they play very nice together. same goes for bluetooth transfers. both went smooth as can be, with no hiccups. this phone is all that and a bag of doritos.
One note of caution: be very VERY careful with the cover on the phone to the charging outlet, it is delicate. its the only achilles heel to this phone. be careful and youll be ok.
As for the color, some hate it, but this happens to be my very favorite color. its the same color as my car, and my bike, so when the phone came out in this color i was pretty pleased and i must say, the finish on this phone is very nice. it really looks sleek, slick and pretty. its a nice looking phone.
Battery life is great. i got about a day to a day and a half with my Razr1, i get three to four days with this phone. its a great and drastic improvement, and with the adaptor it comes with, you can even use your old razr1 car charger with this phone too. so no worries there at all.
I am a little ticked that ATT and all the carriers disabled some of the phones features. outside of ATT, this phone is pretty much castrated. ATT did not take nearly enough care to use the outside LCD like they could have and thats a huge oversight. this phone can do so much more than what ATT has it setup to do. Verizon and the other carriers are far worse though. even so, this phone is still the best thing out there by far, and i do not hesitate to recommend it to anyone else. I would definitely buy this phone again.
When i bought it, i was going to re up my ATT contract anyway, and i was originally going to bite the bullet and pay their price at the shop for this phone. they want $320.00 dollars for this phone so that is a HUGE hit. a day before i was eligible to renew and upgrade my phone, i found this deal online. I will never buy another phone elsewhere again.
The phone was just what i would have gotten in the store, for $320 less, and taking it to the store for activation took me about 10 minutes of my time from start to finish. it was painless and easy. the phone arrived in about a week, so it got here quick, and the memory card arrived the day before the phone. i got to keep my roll over minutes, my same contract, and my bill remains the same, and i got the phone i wanted for free. and to boot, the phone has vastly exceeded my expectations.
I really have to say i have been impressed and completely satisfied overall. i really looked at this phone hard to decide if i wanted to pay the $320 dollars originally, and after seeing what was out there and comparing, and really putting the phone through its paces i was prepared to spend the money. and then this deal came along, and when that happened, it made up my mind the rest of the way. This was a Fantastic deal and too good to pass up. the phone is worth far more than they are asking for it, and its the best model of the bunch, with the best carrier of the bunch. you really can't go wrong here.
Loved the phone...until the keypad died. March 31, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've waited a while to post a review and have had the phone now for over 4 months. I've loved every feature about this phone until now. The key pad completely died on me without ever dropping the phone, or getting any moisture near it. Probably a random defect, but there always seems to be these types of problems with Motorola phones.
I use this phone mainly for making calls and checking sports websites and personal email. The 3G tech is amazing and quite fast. The phone call quality is fantastic. I just wished the hardware didn't fail on me. I've owned Motorola products for the past 7 years. Before that I was a die hard Nokia fan. With all the hardware problems I'm having with Motorola...the V9 may very well be the last Motorola I purchase.
