| Customer Reviews:
Beautiful phone with great interface, excellent all-round quality January 23, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have the white version of this phone and I couldn't be happier. It's not a smart phone, but it performs exceptionally well on everything it's supposed to.
CALL QUALITY: This is an important aspect for me because it is a phone after all! Call quality is great. Not as good as a land line, but voices are plenty loud and very clear. I'm a little hard of hearing, and the volume is good enough for me. So long as you have a good signal (which my phone has no trouble finding), you'll be pleased.
MUSIC PLAYER: The music player is the real highlight of this phone. I was using a Creative Zen mp3 player and the sound out of my W580 is just as good. The interface is pretty simple and doesn't have as many functions as a stand-alone player, but the interface is still very intuitive and gets the job done. The included ear-buds are sound-isolating and produce excellent sound: deep base and rich, clear tones across all pitches. I installed a 4GB memory card which holds about 750 of my mp3's. With the excellent sound quality and decent storage capacity, this phone has replaced my stand-alone mp3 player.
CAMERA: It's only a 2 megapixel with no flash and autofocus, so the camera isn't as good as it could be. But it takes great pictures in good lighting. The color and sharpness of the pictures is right on, and quality is good enough for printing. Don't expect too much in poor lighting; in night mode, you have to hold your hand very still and hope your subject is also very still. The lack of autofocus makes close-ups difficult as well. But for typical use in good lighting, the camera performs admirably.
MESSAGING: Messaging is smooth and intuitive. The lack of a qwerty keyboard doesn't bother me, as the intelligent-tap system works very well. It guesses much better than the itap on the RAZR I recently used. Many users have complained about the keys cracking and splitting, but I haven't had this problem. I've only had the phone for a couple weeks, though, so maybe long-term use will reveal a problem.
DISPLAY: The display is fabulous! 320x240 resolution in only a 2" display means the screen is very smooth-looking and very easy on your eyes. Colors are vibrant and accurate.
CONSTRUCTION: The phone is very light-weight, yet still feels well constructed. The slider mechanism is smooth and solid. There is a small wobble when the phone is fully open, which has been a minor annoyance.
All-around, I'm very happy with this phone and would highly recommend it, especially if you're tired of carrying around a separate phone, camera, and mp3 player!
Good phone but..... January 22, 2008 This is a really neat phone, however, the reviews claim it has excellent battery life....I did not find this the case. Compared to other phones the battery life was very short. I have to charge this phone every night. Another negative about this phone is it's not very text friendly. I would not recommend this phone for frequent texters. The key pad is cramped and the symbols are kind of hard to get to. Those are the only two negatives so far...but I've only had it for about a month.
Excellent technology, inferior constuction January 12, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Pros:
MP3 Player with great sound with and without earbuds, comparable to standalone mps players I own
Bluetooth built in
Internet is fast
2 Mega-Pixel camera with excellent quality photos and videos
Fitness application which counts steps, calories, and records progress
High Resolution screen
Camera protected in slider
Lots of Lights giving a cool futuristic look
Slick look in general
Shake and shuffle mode makes listening to your tunes easy and fun
Memory card allows up to 4 gb of songs
Video upload capablities
Long talk time of 9 hours
Great sound quality, the person on the other end of the phone sounds almost there
Cons:
I got mine last week and the 4 and 6 are cracked in half and the 7 is falling off also with little wear. The keys are made up of very thin plastic and crack if hit wrong; went to the AT&T store to find the store model also has cracked keys.
The keys not only break easily with minor usage but are very crammed and you will find yourself punching in more numbers then desired
The screen also isn't very well protected and very exposed which will most likely lead to future damage
The whole body and frame is made of plastic and feels cheap and flimsy
Memory card has to be a special one for sony phones only and are alot more pricey than the storage disk for competitor phones
No flash on camera
Bottom Line
If you aren't a perfectionist, texter, or cellphone gamer and are looking for a cheap phone with incredible technology and mp3 playback and don't mind if the phone is cracked up this is the phone for you. If you are one of the previously mentioned look to the new lg shine cu720 slider phone offering almost all of the same functions in a stainless steel body and keys. It may be more expensive but it is worth it. It was not in sony's best interest to produce such a top of the line phone from a technological stand point and then skimp on the materials, they should of charged a little more to make a more durable, less delicate phone.
I love my new Sony Ericsson W580i phone January 7, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I absolutely love my new phone. There are so many features I didn't even know about before I purchased it. I had a few problems at first getting the SIM card installed correctly, but after calling Sony customer service I got some good instructions and it has worked perfectly ever since. Everyone should get this phone!

I own this phone and it is one of the best phones you can buy. Sony Ericsson has always provided a good quality phone from my prospective.
