5 out of 5 stars Question   December 3, 2007

Has anyone with an AT&T family plan been able to get a w580i off amazon via a renewal?

4 out of 5 stars phone konked off......do not buy please   November 28, 2007

The phone started giving me error..."insert smartchip" and keeps switching itself off frequently. I tried calling ATT and they tell me that since 30 days have passed, I can get a refurbished phone as a replacement. What a bunch of crap.......daylight robbery...do not buy ATT products or service.

I travel a lot through NH remote areas, I am now losing signal more often than when I had my old nokia 6230. I think I may go back to it.

The microphone of this phone is too sensitive, in my car when I am speaking, people can hear the road noise/wind noise which they did not when I had my nokia.

The interface is very cumbersome. You have to press a lot of buttons to get small tasks done.

----------------------------------------------------------

I purchased this because it has the most features for the price range. I do not use phone for internet, music purchase..etc at least not yet, so I do not need a 3g phone or a PDA phone. If you remove those two aspects, this phone has everything else and free if you are new to AT$$$T .

Quad band, 2MP camera, media player, expandable memory, FM RADIO WITH RDS and bluetooth A2DP.

I recieved this yesterday havent used it much but here are the highlights

Pro's

--Brilliant screen
--love the walkman feature and pedometer. When you switch pedometer, it actually shows a tiny icon with the # of steps in one corner of main screen all the time
--can use as a removable drive with supplied USB cable
--comes with a proprietary headphone, but has an adapter for 3.5mm
--good voice quality and speakerphone.
--has fm with RDS. Only other phone to have it is a nokia 6555, but that one only has 1.3m camera
--sound quality is good for a phone

cons
--not really white color, it is silverish-white...so no OHH and AHH's
--phone can get accidentally unlocked and dial #'s and use mediaNET. U have to create a dummy internet provider to avoid data usage charges..thanks to the other reviewer, this is the first thing I did without even testing if it happens.
--phone switches off suddenly and randomly when you open and close the slider
--Battery door of WHITE phone is difficult to open because it does not have a non-slip backing.
-- ONLY WHITE MODEL HAS 256Mb ms micro card included, you will pay $[...] extra for a 2GB MS compared to a 2GB SD card, factor that into costs.
-- no flash for camera.

If 3g is important, Nokia 6555 is a good option but compromise with camera..as if that makes much difference.

4 out of 5 stars So far, so good!   November 21, 2007

Ok, I bought the white phone. I have to say...it's more of an eggshell, a little grey even, but not white. Oh well, I can live with that.
Key Points
- great reception - no problems so far
- excellent picture quality
- poor video quality
- key pad a little too small - hand will cramp. I am now using my left hand and problem solved.
- lightweight
- no flashlight on this one, but very bright screen
- sd card is a mini - however comes with an adapter
- it has a fitness section under organizer. It counts your steps!
- Poor/Average? battery life - you will have to charge it every day... perhaps that's normal.

1 out of 5 stars Great phone...when it works   November 12, 2007

I loved this phone--for the first month. The sound quality was great, the design was creative and fun, and the features were useful.

And then, one day, it wouldn't power up at all. I tried every troubleshooting option listed on the Sony Ericsson website, including charging up the phone, removing the battery, and cleaning the battery connections. No luck.

I then spent two hours on the phone with AT&T. I was told that because I bought the phone through Amazon, I had to return it through them. However, Amazon's return policy was only valid for a month. So I went back to AT&T, and four phone calls later, they agreed to accept a return the phone. (The number to call is 800-801-1101 if you find yourself in the same situation.) There are a couple of catches, of course. First, I have to pay $12 for 2-day shipping or wait a week to receive the phone with free shipping. Secondly, they can't guarantee me a new phone. The replacement will likely be "reconditioned." I extended my contract for two years for a USED phone? I'm not pleased at all.

In the meantime, I bought a $20 GoPhone and put my old SIMS card in it. Sadly, a $20 phone is working better than a $400 phone.

When the Sony Ericsson works great, it's fantastic. But AT&T's return/warranty policy is disappointing. I paid $0.01 for this phone. I obviously got what I paid for.

1 out of 5 stars Please do read my review: don't buy it!   November 11, 2007

I just bought this phone today - Nov 11, 2007. I think I made a bad decision. I bought it simply when we opened up the family plan, my wife got one. So I thought it will be easier for us to get two same phones. So all below is just my first impression.

1) I already have an iPod which I'm going to use for some time in the future and won't drop. The music playing features and function can compete against an iPod any kind.

2) The menu options and the console to control is just ok. Navigating isn't hard but just ok. The graphics look so so - like a very crapy phone I used a while back - maybe this is just my personal reason.

3) The handsfree and headset is one thing but without the clip is very easy to fell off from the ears because the weight of the mic.

4) Since it's a Sony - so memory chip is M2 with an memory stick adapter. I personally like Secure Digital better because of my computers, my cameras, etc.

5) You don't have viberation alarm! You can set the profile to use "in-meeting" mode but alarm sound still rings up in this mode. This is one of my most unacceptable.

I haven't made calls or receive calls much yet. So I have not found any pros or cons on this. In general, for those won't use the music features and functions much of this phone but just the voice (btw, text messaging and email etc probably won't be impressive either because of the tiny keypad). Back on this: the touch and the feel of the phone/keys etc seems cheap - I like the feel of Motorola RAZR V3 I was using better.

I may make a personal bad decision - but for those who may ended up using the phone like my situation. I don't suggest you to buy. If you are really crazy about the music, get an iPod or iPhone!
