4 out of 5 stars good phone, *** Be careful with microsd expansion ***   March 8, 2008

Good phone but the ATT manual as of 3/2008 incorrectly states that this phone will support MicroSD expansion chips up to 4gb. I wasted 40.00 on a 4gb MicroSD expansion chip for this phone because the manual really meant that it only supported MicroSD chips of up to 2gb.

4 out of 5 stars Just got it.   February 22, 2008

Upgraded from a Razr v3 to this. It was a good move. The handling will take some getting used to (slider vs. other). You'll have to change the settings around to make the phone easier for you. But it has alot of capabilities. Drawbacks is theres a button for "music". What? It's great that it has MP3 capability, but I'll use my phone for a text message before music. I wish that button was for text or camera even. The slider is smooth. The phone is pretty solid. I have a feeling you can bang it around a little and still have it work properly. Battery life seems strong. Reception is fine so far. Buttons are smooth, although one big pad instead of seperate buttons.

Overall I think this phone is very good. Once you get past the initial setup (IE setting your address book, hot buttons, text style, ring tones and volumes) and once you get past the sliding action (i'm used to a flip phone) this will be a seriously powerful and fun phone to use. lots of extra stuff like mp3, video and camera for those who like the tech stuff. but fully functional to use just as a regular phone like I do. I recommend this phone, as it's not too expensive and works well.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome phone...bye bye Motorola   February 19, 2008

I've had two of these (one for me, one for the wife) for about two months now, and we both really like the phones. They are slick looking, for one thing, but actually work well in pretty much every aspect as well.

Reception has been stellar, no dropped called (even in areas where I know the signal is weak and where our old phones would drop the call). Talking is clear and we haven't experienced any of the echo issues others have mentioned. Basically, for simple phone purposes it has worked flawlessly.

It's got a camera, we rarely use this feature. It's a low resolution and we don't have much use for it, but it's gotta be there nowadays. Web functionality is as good as any small, non-PDA type phone. Again, we don't really use this feature much.

My biggest surprise, and I'm thrilled with it, is the music player. My old Motorola had a wannabe mp3 player, but it was severely limited. This little phone has a better music then my Creative Zen in some aspects. It's easy to load and organize, and sound is awesome. The only complaint is that the volume is digital and the level between 4 and 5 is to different...one isn't quite loud enough and the other is too loud.

All in all, I can't find anything bad to say about this phone, other then short battery life. It really only lasts a couple of hours of use, so that's a little low. Other then that, I'd highly recommend it.

4 out of 5 stars OK phone   January 19, 2008

Our contract was up (fiance and I) and I got this phone, she got the Sony w580i. I am not a power user (don't use 3G or internet),I use the phone for 3 basic functions: make calls, listen to music, and sync up to outlook calendar. I had a Razr before this phone.

Things I like: Music Player: I have a 2 gig microSD card and some bluetooth stereo headphones. The trade-off here is sound quality vs. no wires. The quality isn't as good as a dedicated mp3 player with wired headphones but I need to be mobile for my job so I'll take the wireless.

Camera: Compared to the Razr I had (no megapixel) its great.

Things I don't like: Compared to my fiance's Sony, online support sucks. I had to search and search for some sort of phone-computer sync program. There isn't one specific for this phone. I found one for a different one and it worked. Sony has a great website with all kinds of games, etc.
The main reason I wanted to sync was the Outlook Calendar. Unfortunately, there is a character limit to what the phone can hold and its not very much. Messages get cut off and the message itself scrolls really slowly. There is probably a way to scroll faster but I haven't found out how.

On the Razr it was really easy to make a song a ringtone. With the Samsung you have to create some sort of group and then assign a song. It's too much of a hastle and I haven't done it yet.

With this phone, you have to buy a USB cable (Ebay, $5). With the Sony it comes with this and you get headphones also.

I didn't get the Sony because I thought it was too flashy, but I would probably get it instead now. This phone wins out on 3G (if you need it) though, and it doesn't have expensive proprietary flash memory. Its not a bad phone, but for the features I use, it's not a great phone.

2 out of 5 stars An okay phone, some small feature issues.   January 15, 2008

I've had this phone for about a week, and I am planning on taking it back. The battery life is barely two hours of talk time, meaning I have to recharge my phone every day. When I am in silent mode, talking on the phone, and I have low battery, the phone vibrates against my face and the person on the other end of the line can hear it as well. Then it continues to vibrate every five minutes (whether on or off the phone) until I plug in the battery.

The other feature that I cannot stand is the speaker phone. When I have speaker phone engaged, the person on the other end of the line can hear an annoying echo of them talking.

It's a pretty phone (I have the lime one), but that's about it. I haven't played around with the MP3 player. The camera and video takes okay quality for a phone. I guess I could care less about those features.

Maybe I just got a bad phone, but I'm off to find a better one.
