My first phone when I switched to Verizon was the Motorola SLVR L7c, horrible little phone, very little about it was positive. My prior phones have always been Samsung so I went back and have not regretted it. This little phone is cool, compact, very functional, and fun to use. I love the dual hinges and the full qwerty keyboard. Yes, the keys are rather narrow and take some getting used to, but I love the functions. Easy to use, great phone, clear calls, compatible with Acura's HandsFree bluetooth too. My only complaints, my prior Samsung (SCH A900) had a message indicator light that flashed red, this one doesn't, you gotta wake this one up by pressing and holding any one of the side keys when it's closed to see its status. The other thing, don't know if it's a Samsung flaw or Verizon's weirdness, I can't assign different ringers to blocked and unblocked calls. I could with all my other phones but could not with the 2 Verizon phones I've had.

I recently just got this phone and I have to say, it is by far one of the best phones out there today. Aside from the iphone this samsung is in a league of it's own. Basically, it's a laptop in the palm of your hand. I read all the previous reviews to get a clear understanding of what other people think of this phone, and I would agree with most of them. The only thing I don't get is the fact there isn't a standard head phone jack. Even though it came with an adaptor I have to find a pair of head phones that will fit. No biggie. The other thing that could use some improvement are the ring tones and wallpaper. I mean, come on! This phone is a cool piece of technology with lame rings. But with the use of the microSD card I can download any ring tone I want. Other than those two things I would recomend this phone to any one. The keys on the qwerty are just right. The letter P is in a spot a little hard to get to but it's fine. If you ever typed on a computer you will get used to texting on this phone right away. I looked at the LG envy too but loved the flip options on the samsung and the size. It's the same size as the RAZR.
PROS-Unique design and great sound quality.
Great price through Amazon. A $400 phone sold for FREE.
Camera quality is good for camera phone.
Easy to text and can access Vcast, Internet, email.
CONS-No standard head phone jack.
Weak ring tones and wallpaper.
OVERALL- I give this phone 4.5

On my last trip to Tokyo, I saw a lot of great phones there. The only u740 was on static display at the airport and no one was using Motorola, Samsungs or Bluetooth. The u740 I had ordered was waiting for me when I returned and it was light-years ahead of my old Motorola. All my contacts were transferred almost automatically through Verizon to the new phone and I was ready to text on the full QWERTY keyboard with two thumbs. Strangely, I found out that I had to use the numlock key to access the alternate characters instead of the shift key. Also strange, I could not picture message more than one photo at a time,while I could send three VGA photos in a single message on the old chunky phone.
The camera has too much shutter lag so it can be hard to take snapshots compared to my old Motorola. (deduct one star and keep a Lumix in my front pocket)
It was hard to find a good holster for this new thinner phone, I had to put the Velcro hooks on the back of the phone to keep it from sliding or falling out of a sharkskin holster.
I used a Lexar 2GB micro SD to transfer and store MP3, WMA, MOV and JPG files. The photos are bigger in portrait mode than opening the phone in landscape mode, but the pictures appear to use less area on the screen than on other Samsung phones U504.
The USB cable from the music kit seems to need the AC charger to be plugged into it to function. The stereo headset from the music kit plugs into the charger port so it is not standard. Choosing the music files to play is selected from the Get-It-Now menu from a linear screen so it is not convenient to playback a large number of MP3 files.
The battery life seems a lot longer than the Motorola, so no more spare battery in the wallet and no emergency recharger units and no car chargers. The charging port is a smaller size than on other Samsungs so I have not found third party chargers or accessories.
The alarm clock only allows me three alarm settings, but the calculator functions are easier to use compared to old chunky and the notepad is practical with the use of a full keyboard.
The Aliph Bluetooth Headset pairs well up to just three feet, then gets static in the ear piece. It must be a "safety feature" to have such low EMI in the Bluetooth mode. * I have now used the bluetooth out to twenty feet and determined that the bluetooth antenna is sensitive to being close to my body and works much better if I take the phone out of the belt holster or shirt pocket and put it down a few feet away or hold it it my hand away from my torso. The bluetooth antenna is up near the hinge area above the charging port, maybe its possible to use a piece of copper foil as a shield or antenna booster?

Have had this phone for about 2 weeks now. Enjoy most of the features. Don't like the little pieces of plastic that serve as covers for the ports. Seems like pieces that have already broken off. Keyboard is ok, if a bit small for me.
Biggest problem I have is I CANNOT HEAR IT RING!!!!!! Have all the settings turned up as high as I can. But when it goes off in the vehicle (ringer, alarm, etc) I miss it because it is so low. My KRZR (which I will go back to) was plenty loud enough. I got the Samsung as a gift from my wife. Nice phone, but if I can not hear it go off...
