No spelling August 10, 2008 Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac I don't know what the full-blown version does, but the 'Home and Student' edition doesn't let you use an Custom Dictionary - at least not in Dutch and French. That makes it useless for me - back tot the 2004 edition.
office 2008 for Mac August 7, 2008 I like the ease of the new product. The layout makes more sense. The modifiers are more accessible with less steps.
A big mistake August 5, 2008 I upgraded hoping to get solutions to some bad things Offic 2004 Mac has. But Office 2008 is even worse, now I can not use Pivot Tables, since the program abort every time I use them. The macros do not work the same way as usual and I have not been able to work with them so far. I can not get support to solve these problems neither from the help nor from the MS support. I use to sync Entourage with my Palm TX, now...surprise!!! the new Office 2008 is not compatible with Hot Sync and I will have to buy a new third party software to be able to do what I had before for free. One buys a new software to work easier and better, but this one is neither easier nor better. I am very disappointed with my new software.
Office 2008 for Mac, Home Ed. August 2, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Office 2008 for Mac is functional and does what I need it to do. However, it's terribly slow to load. I got the 2008 version because it's written to run natively on the Intel Macs and I had hoped it would load and run faster than my 2004 version. Sadly, the new version typically takes 30 seconds to load (it will load faster if I've run it recently). I'm using a 2.4GHZ MacBook Pro, so I don't think I can blame my computer for this lethargic performance. I typically leave Word running to avoid the loading delay. Once running, it's much faster than 2004, which seemed to lag a lot.
I've been using the Mac apps for mail and calendar so I only have limited experience with Entourage. My main disappointment with Entourage is its lack of scrolling monthly calendars. Like iCal, the Entourage calendars flip from month to month in discrete increments, rather than letting you look at a portion of one month and the beginning of the next, which you can do in Outlook.
Overall, Office 2008 works fine and I suppose is worth the upgrade from 2004 if, for nothing else, to avoid 2004's lagginess from running through Rosetta.

Not only did this product come cheaper than what most stores are sell it for, it arrived in record time. It works great and has a lot of new tools to work with. It's a fun tool if you just got an Apple computer and want to work on 2003 Microsoft things.
