Solid simple phone, but no voice dialing July 23, 2008 I need a phone with basic calling and texting features. This phone does these very well and is surely overkill for my needs, but I like it. Controls are pretty smooth, buttons work well. Menus are a little cryptic, example: 2 options on main screen: Options & Menu, but most features I use are accessible with a few button presses. The screen is quite nice, bright with good resolution. Camera has worked well, including the video recorder.
Unfortunately, I just learned that it does not have a voice dialing feature. That one missing feature means I would not purchase it today due to the new law in Washington (California too) requiring headsets while driving. The other negative is that Samsung's Outlook synchronization software does not allow filtering by category. So, if you sync with Outlook you will get every contact you have with no way to mark those you want on your 'phone'.
Good so far July 18, 2008 Just got this phone last week for $30 from At&T store. I never had a slider phone and didn't think I would like it. But I was tired of always getting clamshell phones and thought I would make a change. The phone feels very solid in my hard, it has some weight on it to make it feel non-cheap. I got the red color phone (unlike the orange or the lime) the back is also red, which matches the frame. I haven't make that many calls on it yet but from what I've experienced, the quality is alright, I won't complain. The 3G connection seems to be worse then when it is on Edge, but you can always turn off 3G. The features on the phone is very nice, it's nothing that fancy, but everything that a person would need. I like the bluetooth connectivity which helps me to get pictures onto the phone, and out with my macbook. I also bought bluetooth headset which will come ion handy as this phone does not have earphone jack. The phone does get hot after about 10 min of talking, so for longer calls I would suggest getting a bluetooth headset. I also like the feature where you can customize short cuts for stuff you use the most like addressbook, sound and disply, wallpaper, calendar, camera. I find it very convinient to just go to the shortcut menu and get the stuff I want instead of going through the long way and clicking on 5 different submenues. Most of the time I don't even need to slide the phone out at all. The only time you need to slide it out is if you want to punch in numbers to call, or if you are editing some entry. I bought a 2GB microSD card and it fits right in, so no problem there. The phone itself has 40 or 50 MB of internal storage which is a lot, for putting on some walpaper or ringtones. I also bought another one for my mom. I tink because of it's easy to use functionalities and design, she will be happy with it. Overall I give this phone a 9/10.
Piece of Junk! July 10, 2008 Please! Do NOT buy this phone. The slide function hits the base mouthpiece every time you use it. The plastic base mouthpiece covering broke off my phone after only 2.5 months! And this was with gentle, infrequent use.
The reception is also very poor. I bought a new Pantech C-300 and the reception is double what this phone had.
Yes, I had to buy a new phone to replace the Samsung, because neither AT&T, nor Samsung would cover the repair. It was considered "cosmetic" damage. It's their design that broke off the mouthpiece!
Nice features but very sensitive to moisture July 8, 2008 I've owned this phone since Dec. 2007 and like the features but feel that is not as user friendly as my previous Sony Ericsson Phone. My phone was exposed to moisture on July 4th and now no one can hear me when I call them or they call me. It was not submerged or doused with water just exposed to moisture. Now I need a new phone.
Good Phone June 27, 2008 The Samsung A737 is a great phone. Pros: Big screen, slim, hyper-fast internet connection, bluetooth to connect to your other gadgets, SD memory slot, whatch stream video, good camara and video recorder for a phone!. Cons: You can't hear your call as clear as with other phones I owned previously. Also as is a slide phone a small accidental slide of the screen while talking makes you loose your call. I don't like the menu that much, but you can create short cuts to the most commom used application and features. This is a big one I did not like: It comes with a bunch of trial application, as well as AT&T phone #s that even if you don't need or want, you CAN NOT DELETE from your phone. As a overal I think is one of the best FREE phones with state of art gadgets, (when you upgrade or sign a two year contract)
