1 out of 5 stars Don't buy for hands free laws   July 7, 2008

Yoiu cannot dial hands free with this phone. Nokia will not allow you to enter your own voice tags for your contacts and the computer generated voice is impossible to mimic. If you are looking for true hands free phone usage, try another phone/brand!

5 out of 5 stars Extremely Durable!!   June 23, 2008

I always buy Nokia phones because they are so durable. Two Nokia's I have had for my kids have gone through the WASHING MACHINE (one also went though the dryer). One was the Nokia 6085, the other was a bar phone a few years ago. I dropped my Nokia in a creek last year and it lived through it. How can you beat that? Especially for kids.

2 out of 5 stars Good phone with two flaws   June 18, 2008

Head Note : very convenient for old people, people with big fingers and people who will NOT walk outdoor & talk. Bad for people who talk while walking in road or who work mostly outdoor.

Also Suitable for people with less sharp hearing & sight abilities.

Pros:
1)Very loud, very clear (though noisy in windy places and some times tinning voice )
2)Big keypad, Big, clear contrasty LCD screen layout (though phone numbers appear in two lines, which I felt i was typing a wrong number because it splits the numbers oddly between lines. I won't consider that as a Con / Flaw because most people save numbers in 'contacts list' now a days)
3)Excellent signal reception.

Cons :
You WILL get either or both of this problems with this Cell phone :

1) Strong hissing noise when sitting near fan/AC (almost none when no wind or moment around). This will be annoying if you are walking in street in wind.

Cause : ABSENSE OF NOISE CANCELLING in firmware in 6085

Solution : Keep her mouth so close to yours as if you are kissing her and block the wind OR talk from under the bed or inside the rest room :-)

Knowing this might really help you:
2) One fine morning, you will not hear what the other person saying. Nothing. Nay. Nada. You will see headset icon appearing in the screen.

Cause : Your 6085 Cellphone dreams and undergoes hallucination that she is screwed by a headset pin. Actually she is serene and untouched by headset pin, but little dust particle might have gone inside that confused her.

Solution : 1) Swtich off the phone and restart; if no success 2) remove Battery, insert again and restart; if no success 3) Remove battery, make a non-cruel, ahimsa, vegetarian attempt to clean off dust particles and again turn it on. if no success 4) Use headset as temporary solution :-) and send her to Gynecologist or tech. support.

3) Tinning, harsh voice ( occasionally, not a bummer or flaw)

( FN :
1) I wanted to give three stars, but i want to reduce existing average four star rating, so giving only two.
2) If your friend has this phone and if hissing noise from his/her side annoys you , you too can buy this one and revenge on your friend. Be ruthless and get the help of satan in this regard.

4 out of 5 stars great call quality, good media player, poor camera.   April 19, 2008

I'm a repairman for AT&T and when my previous candybar nokia had a button that started to stick, I was allowed to choose a phone from all the free phones currently offered to the public. After looking at some reviews and comparing features I chose this 6085. Now this phone gets used and abused on a daily basis while I'm out on the job, but it's kept working well for the 6 months or so I've had it. The sound quality is excellent for both user and the called party, in fact I often have to turn the volume down a bit (unless it's really windy). The speaker phone works well, and it can be used with the phone closed (my old Samsung Sync couldn't do that). I liked the phone so much I bought a microSD card to try the media player and camera. The media player works pretty well, although I haven't tried it with bluetooth headset yet, but I listen to audiobooks through the speakerphone and they sound good. The camera takes only so-so pictures, in my opinion. The colors tend to be off a bit and not too clear, adequate for showing others on the phone, but not too good for email. Battery life has been exceptional, I use the phone a lot and it lasts several days between charges. I also own a Nokia N75 phone for my personal use, but for simply making and receiving calls and for a simple to use media player, I actually like the 6085 better! It's easy to customize ringtones for callers too, which is nice. I'd rate this a 5 if not for the sub-par camera. This is the kind of phone my parents (age 74) would love, because the buttons are large, distinct and separate, the display numbers are large, and the call volume is nice and loud. Sure the N75 has more gizmos, but this 6085 is a great phone that's really easy to use.

2 out of 5 stars adequate, but annoying   April 14, 2008

My needs in a cell phone are simple ... I just want to make and receive phone calls. Don't care about camera, video, email, texting, or anything else. The thing that I find annoying with this camera is the display. If I am calling a number like 234-5678, the number does not show on one line of the display. Instead, the 2 will be on the upper line and 345678 will be on the lower line. I guess the engineers that designed it didn't know what American phone numbers look like. I want my old Motorola back!
