Horrible Phone/ Not for someone who needs a workhorse July 10, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I wonder if I am reviewing the same phone as those that gave this phone a 4* or 5*. Or perhaps the people who rated it so high do not use it as a workhorse or for business and personal use OR perhaps I got a bad phone and so did my other friends and collegues who have this same phone and absolutely HATE it.
I have had this phone since December and lived with the irritations at first, now they are just unberable and I am looking to make a change. If anyone has any suggestions, please post!
Anyhow, my phone locks up at least 5 times a day. I go to use it and guess what, no phone, it's just locked up. So, in order to make a call, I must reset the phone. which by resetting the phone it clears out of my information that has been stored by my IT department at work in order for me to properly receive emails from work. so I have to go in at least 5 times a day reset the phone and then set up all my email notification syncing stuff again. I have gotten to the point where it's just too much of a hassle, I go in through the internet and get my email now.
when I text it sends my messages before I am done typing. Nice feature for those who want to send out half completed messages.
The phone gets horrible reception, for example, I am at my pool, I get zero bars, no reception. I turn to my other friends with Verizon and they have 4 bars on their regular phones.
I could go on and on and give you many reasons why I absoutely would never recommend this phone, it's a nightmare. I use my phones like a workhorse and expect them to perform up to par. this phone is just badddd.
Great when it works... June 14, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have now had 4 of these phones in just a few months as they all suddenly stop working in the following way. They work fine for a while and then get no coverage in moderate zones and poor coverage in very strong coverage zones. The rest of the phone/PDA functionality works but for whatever reason, the radio seems to loose strength. I have now switched to a VX6800 as I need a reliable phone so we will see how that goes. Given my experience with this phone model, I would strongly recommend against it. Too bad as it is a cool and well made device with lots of great features other than reliability. In context, I have had lots of different smartphones (TREO 600, TREO 650, Blackjack, various BlackBerrys...). If this phone would keep working, I would really like it. So far I can say that the keyboard on the VX6800 is better but the physical device quality and screen are not as good. The other downside to these slider phones is that they are really hard to use with one hand so if you walk through airports trying to do your e-mail, I would stick with a candy bar style device like a Blackjack, Moto Q, or Blackberry.
Excellent Phone June 4, 2008 I have been running this phone since it was first released by Verizon. The only problem I have ever had was with the digital clock that is on the desktop. It has a memory leak that will lead to your phone crashing. If you search the internet you can disable this feature entirely on your phone so that you no longer have to worry about it.
I have also been very impressed with its battery life compared to its predecessor the i730. The i730 was lucky to get 2 days of battery life even with the extended mega battery. This phone can go a week with its normal battery and easily more than that with its extended battery that is a few millimeters thicker.
If you buy this phone be prepared to buy a new sync cable from amazon that will allow you to sync and charge through USB as the cable that it ships with cannot support this. I believe Verizon was trying to prevent people from tethering with this phone.
HORRIBLE DESIGN May 15, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
This is the most horribly designed phone I have ever used. There is literally no solid way to answer the phone without disconnecting a call. As you can see from any photo of this phone, the green connect button is directly across from the red disconnect button, and these buttons are not on the TOP of the phone, they're on the SIDES! So if you hold the phone like any normal person would hold a phone, you disconnect the call as you answer it if one of your fingers is even slightly touching the red disconnect button. You can't apply pressure to the green button to answer the call because this is the place you push the top panel off the bottom panel to reveal the keyboard. If you push too hard, you snap open the keyboard and disconnect your call and risk dropping the phone because it's now too wide to hold in your hand. Also, you cannot touch anything on this phone without it beeping at you! There are multiple buttons on the right side of the panels which is where your fingers go to hold the stupid thing, so you literally can't touch it without launching something and pressing, pressing, pressing to get back to where you want to be. Horrible design and not a good option for a busy professional who needs to call and answer quickly.
worst phone experience in my life May 8, 2008 1 out of 7 found this review helpful
this product represents the worst phone experience in my life !!! I won't belabor too much time on this since I've wasted so much already. 1. bought the phone, took 1.5 hours to get through that process, guess what, the internet feature wasn't turned on so none of the email and tehtering functions worked. 2. day 2 at Verizon, spent 3.0 hours and the result was: a. still could not get access to my emails to work (simple outlook email through AT&T DSL). tried wirless synch, EZ synch, and nothing. rebooted the phone, reloaded my contacts and still no email functionality. b. promised the tethering was just a slip the CD in and viola it work work. WRONG !!! it didn't work.
you ask yourself, maybe the wrong persons were trying to help me. Nope, I had both of the senior managers trying to make this work, the SAMSUNG guy happened to also be there and he didn't know what to do, tech support calls to Verizon and Samsung did not address the solution.
the only reason my 3.0 hour session stopped at 3 hours, was I had to leave to go out of town. they wanted me to go anyway, because there isn't any technical service or expertise at these stores anyways.
worst phone exprience in my life, bar none !!!! bob, San Jose CA, May 4th and 5th, 2008
