I have been using this phone for a few weeks now and I love it. The design is great. I was suprised at how small and light the phone is. It gets great reception and is extremely user friendly. I was initially concerned that this phone may be a pain to use since it didn't have a full keyboard, but it is suprisingly easy and hassle-free. There is more software to download for this phone than any of the other Blackberrys. Get the colour trackball program from Handango to change the color of your trackball.
P.S. I got this phone after being fed up with the T-Mobile MDA Smartphone. If you are considering that phone, stay far far away and get this one instead.

My wife and I are both having these wonderful devices. We are really excited about their features, stylish look and convenient. When my wife had been looking for a job, it was very important to response quickly to email, and her Pearl helped a lot. Now she has a perfect job - thanks to Pearl.
First, this is a real Blackberry, but not so bulky as the previous models. I've always been suspicious about Blackberry, I guessed, that they are for business people, that for being "always connected" sacrifice convenience and "real mobility" of a usual cell phone. But Pearl is really small! It's just a little bit bigger than my previous SE T610 and even thiner! I was afraid, that my wife would not like it, and bought a bar samsung for her. But when I got my Pearl, I changed my mind as soon as I see it and take in my hand. It is a very elegant thing, and fits for both men and women.
Second, It's very convenient to use: a trackball is a real find (you remember trackballs on mac notebooks?) - much more convenient, than a scrollwheel. The screen is clear and bright: I bought a leather case from Krusell, and have no problem, reading from the screen even sunny day (I could not say the same about SE T610). Buttons are very confortable to press. Camera is not a Canon, but frequently occurs useful.
No problem with sound quality. I'm using a bluetooth headset (Plantronics 320 - bought on Newegg for $[...] - another wonderful device - using regularly, I charge it once a month!) and never had any complains of sound from anybody I spoke with.
I synchronize my Pearl with MS Outlook on my work, and always have all fresh events, contacts and notes with me.
Using the Pearl, you can have the real advantage, if you're subscribed to an unlimited internet plan ($[...]/mo by T-Mobile). The most important thing: you don't need to connect to the Internet, open your mail program or so on. You are always connected! You receive email as soon as an usual SMS! You can send PIN messages with no additional cost - they are like SMS, but work just between Blackberry devices only. Of course you can send usual SMSs, but it can cost you. You can take a picture by built-in 1.3 mpx camera and send it by email momentarily with no additional cost neither. You can surf the Internet with a built-in browser - a pretty convenient one for such a tiny device. I got installed Google (including GMail, maps, search and talk), Yahoo! Go 2 (mail, search, finace, sports, flicr, weather, etc.), Accuweather (a weather icon just on your Pearl desktop), some games. I believe, there's a lot of compatible software, but it costs. Btw, Google Talk happened more convenient, than ICQ - we started using it as soon as we bought Pearls - no problem to communicate between a PC and a Pearl, both PCs, or both Pearls. Google maps with a satellite view is a real toy! :) I've connected my Pearl to my bluetooth GPS device, and it worked (however, using GPS with my iPAQ h4155 is more useful).
T-Mobile pros:
Five Faves are really good. They cover most of your basic numbers you call. For example, my wife has my cell phone number, our home phone number, her syster's, her job's and a number of the calling card. Using calling card she's able to call anywhere on the Earth, not spending her airtime absolutelly! (although using of calling card by Pearl is not as much convenient as by SE T610). We pay $[...]/month for 2 devices ($[...] shared for 5 faves family plan + $[...] blackberry plan per each device), and I guess this is a pretty reasonable price. A phone plan include 1000 minutes, but we never exceed it - thanks Five Faves.
T-Mobile cons:
T-mobile dissapointed us a little. First, they increased a price for the second device for some reason for $[...], although I just wanted to exchange a samsung I never used to a Pearl. Second, T-Mobile failed a $[...] mail-in rebate for the second phone. However, we were so happy with our phones, that I fogave them ;).
Perhaps, Pearl can't be called a real Blackberry (it has no full keyboard), but as a cell phone it is a very feature balanced, stylish and pretty nice device. We love it.
Amazon rocks: it proposes as low prices as possible. I've bought here my previous phones, and they both costed me -$[...].

This is a very good phone. Had more dropped calls than my razr on Cingular. Amazon was great througout the order process; I received the phone and had to call T-mobile to activate it and pull my number from Cinglar for Free! I have it registered to a Blackberry Enterprise Server too and it's quick.
It will take you a week or so to learn the true-type keyboard. Not good if you have fat fingers or need glasses to read. This fits great into my pocket and gets a lot of compliments. The battery is nothing special. When you get a lot of pictures stored on it, the phone's operating system slows down.
I suggest putting the microSD card in to store your pictures. The LCD flash feature is great.

Overall I love my Blackberry Pearl. It's easy to use, convenient, small and now I only have to carry one device. It does, however, have one MAJOR problem. Since I bought it 6 months ago, I have had to get it replaced twice, both for the same problem. The handset speaker stops working. In a call the person I'm talking to can hear me but I can't hear them. I take good care of my phone, have never dropped it, gotten it wet, etc. so there is no excuse for it to stop functioning like this, especially after so short a time. I'm definitely not going to get another one of these!!

My husband and I both got the Blackberry Pearl with a 2 year plan 3 months ago. We are both on our 3rd phone each. It is ridiculous!!
The phone is meant to be a communication tool - well, I cannot hear anything the caller is saying on the headset, unless i use it in speaker mode or use it with the hands free headset.
T-Mobile has charged us $9.99 for shipping each time to replace the phone - so we've spent $60.00 on just shipping charges to get a new one each time, only to have it replaced within a month.
If you want a stable phone, buy anything but a Blackberry Pearl. Very disappointing.
