A great Smartphone - know what you're buying March 29, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I'm surprised at some of the reviews here for this phone. I wonder if some people expect perfection, or don't know the best way to use the phone. I was given a new one (from a generous friend in the industry) so luckily it cost me nothing, but it was replacing a first generation Motorola Q that I would have paid to get rid of. THAT is a horrible smartphone.
While I didn't pay for this 700wx, I certainly would have. With Windows Mobile, it easily connects to Exchange, and with the 1.22 Palm update and Audio Patch (a bit annoying to have to do, but very easy to install), the phone has been flawless.
I searched high and low for a phone most people liked. It seemed there was no good solution, but I've had this about a week now, and have found it to be by far, the best smartphone I've had in terms of ease of use, performance, and erally great Palm upgrades and tweaks to the Windows Mobile OS, making it feel somewhat "blackberry like" when typing.
I wonder if dome people are confusing the 700wx with the 700w or even the 700p (which has the Palm OS, not WM).
You better love texting, because call reception sucks... March 10, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I rarely write reviews, but after having this piece of junk I thought I'd write one.
I'm on my second Palm Treo 700wx in less than a year. If it wasn't replaced under warranty I wouldn't still have this thing.
I don't load any software on to this thing because I know how finicky it is... Even with that I've had to do several data-clearing hard resets.
Amongst "features" this phone has: 1) Bluetooth works very poorly, if at all (very staticy compared to other phones) 2) Synch issues while hooked up to the computer, just won't connect (this was the source of one hard reset) 3) Unable to connect to internet, tries 5-6 times getting a "no modem at number" or something like that each time, another source of a hard reset. 4) Terrible reception, most of the time I get two bars, I might get 3 when I go outside, this is in Denver metro. I've reverted to texting people when a conversation is important, because I can't make out all of what they say. The phone's been replaced for this and has gotten *slightly* better. 5) Makes calls and changes settings even with keyguard enabled. 6) Synchs at all times of the day, whereever you are, regardless of your peak times settings or roaming schedule settings. This drains the battery FAST! 7) No option to set a reminder or flash a light for messages waiting. You get one alert when a new message or voicemail comes in, that's it, after that there is a small icon at the top of the screen that let's you know there is a message or some sort.
I wanted to like this phone, I really did, but it's the source of a lot of aggravation for me..
Does NOT WORK with Vista 64bit February 13, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have a Treo 650. I just bought a new laptop that came with Vista 64bit. Little did I know that NO PalmOne product is compatible with Vista 64bit and they (by the words of one of their customer reps today)are not working on a fix. Now I'm going to have to buy a new phone if I want to be able to sync. More and more new systems are shipping with Vista 64bit and many people are caught unaware of this fact. Please know if you buy this phone, it will not work with Vista 64bit as of the date of this review.
Worst device ever!! December 30, 2007 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
I am on my fifth Treo, my friend went through 8 before getting her new Blackberry. I am waiting to finish my service contract to get ANYTHING but a Treo. Be warned! The only good thing about it was that each time it froze, lost sound quality (which is poor to begin with) or erased date, Palm and Verizon were good about sending me a new one (although I would have preferred anything else.) The wx may be better but I am not even willing to risk it.
Disappointing BlueTooth Performance December 20, 2007 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
UPDATED 3/17/2008--I found that Palm has a new update that somewhat fixes the bluetooth problem I was having. I've completed the upgrade and even though I still drop connectivity, the bluetooth doesn't turn off and re-connects with the headset when I hit a service area. So far I've not had to pull off the road and perform resets or re-engage the bluetooth manually. UDATE COMPLETE
I've been using this phone for the last 5 months and really like it when it works right. I've not had some of the problems others have, but I've certainly had them. I've had to perform a number of hard and soft resets on the phone after it started locking up and having application problems. I've since come to find out that you may have to do this from time-to-time when you get a software update. After getting everything straightened out after the resets, all seems to be working as it should for now.
My reason for ranking this phone with only 3 stars is because I need to have consistent hands-free connectivity...Bluetooth. This phone constantly looses the Bluetooth connection. It's very annoying. I've found that every time I get into an area where there's no service, doesn't seem to matter how short a period of time, the Bluetooth will disengage itself and not re-link. I'll find out when I'm driving down the road and the phone rings, but my headset doesn't. Every single time, I have to pull off the road, turn on the blue tooth and re-establish a connection to my headset. It's definitely not the headset as I've tried a number of different makes and models and they all do the same thing. Right now I have the Aliph Jawbone (which I'm very happy with) and it still does the same thing. I've called Sprint and am told this is normal. I find that unacceptable for such an expensive item. I've had other phones that didn't have this problem. This is definitely a problem that needs to be looked into and fixed.
If you're in an area that has good service, and you don't roam all over the country, I recommend this phone. I really think you'll be happy with it and it will work well for you. If you travel a lot and go in and out of service areas, you may want to consider something else. I travel extensively and rely on the hands free functionality so I'm frequently frustrated by the ever dropping Bluetooth.
