5 out of 5 stars Lexar film reader   August 15, 2004
I bought one of these several years ago and still have it. I have found with most device of this time, that if the drivers are installed correctly and there are no conflicts they work great. I have in the last year switch my camera's to USB 2.0 and download directly from the cameras and it is fast. But in it's time, this was a good reader.

4 out of 5 stars Good enough but [costs some money]   March 14, 2003
I bought this product one year ago and it didn`t bring any Windows xp drivers. I couldn`t find it on the lexar website so I contacted their support service wich promptly sent me the link for download. After downloading and installing the new drivers it worked fine ever since in 4 different machines with Cf of 16 and 64mb and a 16mb smartmedia.

5 out of 5 stars LEXAR MEDIA UNIVERSAL DIGITAL FILM READER   January 11, 2003
1. For several years I struggled with digital film memory card transfers from my Kodak DC-265 digital camera to my Kodak software program, Picture Easy 3.1.
2. Primary problems:
a) Transfer times excessive, ie., 10 - 15 minutes.
b) Image transfers often excluded varying numbers of images.
3. Upon receipt of a Lexar Media USB DFR from a relative,
problems experienced above vanished, ie., transfers were
completed in a matter of seconds with no exclusions or aborts.
4. Since I have two residences in California, it seemed prudent to have a card reader at each.

This is an aweful card reader. I am using it on a Windows ME system and NONE of the images transfer correctly. They are all disstorted. I tryed first with a Smartmedia card for my ipaq. That didn't work. Then, i tryed it with a compactflash card from my Nikon camera, and the same thing happend. I returned it right away. Save your money for something useful. There are plenty of other ones out there that are much better.

3 out of 5 stars Decent, but not without problems.   August 21, 2002

I bought this reader a few months ago to transfer images from a 128 MB SmartMedia card. I picked this one specifically because I expected to need support for both SmartMedia and CompactFlash. I was disappointed by the lack of Linux support, but I managed to find a Windows 2000 machine and transfer the images from the SmartMedia card, and it worked fine.

Jump ahead a few months. I tried to use it last night with a 16 MB CompactFlash card, the one that came with my new Canon S40. It failed miserably. Not one single image was transferred correctly. The only good to come of the experience was that I learned that there is native Linux support for the Canon S40, so I have no need of a separate reader.

I still have several friends and relatives who use SmartMedia cameras, so I may keep this reader around for when I'm working with their memory cards, but I'm rather irritated with it at the moment.
