5 out of 5 stars i am really happy with that machine   October 6, 2008
i have been using this machine for a month and it is absolutely perfect. very quick and it shots so nice. it is easy to use. before that one i was using sony cyber shot, but canon is absolutely better than Sony. i have taken so many good photos, i hope i will take more and more... if you want to see one of them just contact with me :)
one minor thing, it came to me without a safe bag... i wish the package contains a safe bag too.

4 out of 5 stars Great camera!   October 6, 2008
I did research for a number of months and the most complicated facet of the research involved the high number of models produced by Canon. After comparing features and price, I found that this camera had the best mix of price and features. I particularly like the wider angle of the lens.

I have used the camera for about a month now and have not been dissappointed at all. I have taken shots at a lounge/night club, the beach, indoors swimming pool, and in the house. I got beautiful shots in all of these different lighting conditions. In addition, I took a shot using the digital zoom at its max and shot came out pretty clear.

As far as negatives, I would say it is difficult to grip the camera given its finish. I almost dropped it twice while removing it from the case. I now do not grasp the camera without holding the strap. Also, it seems that the battery does not charge when connected to a computer via the USB cord. It looks like the only way to charge the camera is to take the battery out and use the supplied charger which is okay but it is inconveient.

All in all, the benefits outweigh the negatives and the negatives are understandable given the size of the camera. Overall, very happy with this purchase. Amazon shipped the camera quickly and it arrived sooner than expected.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome camera!   October 3, 2008
The Canon PowerShot series is definitely the best mini camera series available in the market. I bought the SD870 for my sister, and I have the SD850 myself. When it comes to taking landscape photos, the SD870 is better due to the wide screen, but I definitely prefer the micro shots of the SD850.

So I would pick either the SD850 or the SD870 (I tried many others!! They are the best!) according to what the type of photos you take more often.... Both are excellent!

5 out of 5 stars Great Camera   October 3, 2008
This is my very first digital camera and it took me years to pick one. I've used friend's cameras and find that Canons seem to take better pictures. I'm very happy with my decision. The camera is very user-friendly so it wasn't too intimidating. Taking group picture is a breeze with the wide angle lens. Action shots comes out clear and not blurry (at the right setting) and night shots are amazing. The movie function is nice but don't expect it to give you quality like a real digi-camcorder. All-in-all a very nice point & shoot.

4 out of 5 stars Canon 870 overall good, but here are a few considerations   October 2, 2008
1 out of 1 found this review helpful

When I set out to buy a digital camera two things were really important to me. I wanted a camera that took pictures quickly and started up fast to catch those candid moments that happen spontaneously. In those respects the Canon 870 does very well. Picture to picture is about .9 sec. And start up to first picture is about 1.4 sec. There also is a myriad of settings that are fun to use. The 870 also uses sd cards which was important to me because I have three of those and didn't want to buy new memory cards to fit in other cameras like the new sony's. Other advantages of the 870 is that it has image stablizier and face recognition which is helpful in focusing on people and keeping things in focus. Overall the camera is great for those everyday shots and even for individuals who like to explore the cameras settings. The camera has a few downsides. I've noticed that sometimes its hard to take pictures that are in focus. Sometimes I've really had to work and take several pictures to get one in focus. This is especially apparent in low light settings. Without a tripod it is hard to get pictures in focus and bright enough. Otherwise its a gerat camera, well built and can take amazing pictures if your patient to get it just right.
