Purchased for Grandson July 19, 2008 I purchased this for my grandson and he said it was to bulky. I thought it was great and would protect his IPod but he tried it and said to bulky.
Rugged July 14, 2008 I really like this case as it gives the ipod great protection and a "heft" the unit itself does not have. The ribbing makes the unit easy to hold. I haven't bounced my unit off the floor yet, but the case gives the impression that you could without negative effect. Maybe that's not a positive.
Nice protection June 20, 2008 I am glad I bought the ToughSkin. However, it does add a lot of weight to the iPod (7 oz total). It has an insert to fill in the space for an 80 GB iPod since is it smaller than a 160 GB iPod. The plastic insert to protect the screen is nice. The openings for the charger, headphones, and "hold" switch are large enough so that there is no problem with access, yet there is still enough protection for drops. The belt clip has a button that easily allows the unit to be removed from the clip. The control wheel is fully exposed so that nothing impedes use of the controls.
Inadequate Protection... sort of June 17, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is the first case that I bought for my iPod. This case excels at absorbing drop damage due to its thick rubber shell and strong corners. I have dropped my ipod in this case several times and was glad that I had the case.
The Speck case fails in three other areas, however.
1. If you remove your iPod for any reason (docking in a standalone speaker, etc.) then the rubber around the screen will stretch out and be ruined in short order. This is very frustrating because the screen protector no longer is sealed behind the rubber and has a tendency to slide around.
2. Dust, grit, and dirt get under the rubber very easily. No big deal, right? Well not until you take the iPod out of the case and discover that the entire surface has been covered in fine scratches. The dust and grit can get in but can't get out.
3. The swivel belt clip, while useful, leaves a circle of scratchy awfulness the size of a US quarter that starts at the bottom of the Apple logo. Very irritating.
In summary the case is good for drop protection but lousy for incidental scratch protection. I blame this case 100% for destroying the resale value of my iPod due to the scratches.
Very nice case June 11, 2008 I was actually shocked how nice this was. It completely protects the iPod. Its rubber, so it's shock proof. Has screen protector, which was a genious invention. The clip on the back it flawless and strong.
A few silly problems: 1. The black rubber attracts dust and lint. 2. Docks virtuably become un-usable. 3. Lint, dust and dirt can get inside of case and scratch up chrome finish.
That's about it. Its the best case out there, even better than the ones by Apple.
