GPS It's the Greatest October 4, 2008 It is amazing to own a GPS. We would not go anywhere without it. It is so precise, that the wonders of how it works is unbeliveable. Everyone shoul own one.
THANK YOU Martha Mc Devitt
good October 4, 2008 works well. small enough to pop in your pocket and take while walking (very handy for big cities) Dont like that it doesnt tell you the direction of upcoming turn or what your next direction is until you are close to it. I like to know if I'm going to be on a road for 10 miles or 80. I dont like that you have to push the lower corner of screen to have it tell you this info. The maps are good - not perfect. It will say I am at POI and I'm not - but i'm ususally close enough, that I can call them and they'll direct me the rest of the way. Very easy to add favorites. Plays audiobooks which is fantastic. Good value. Good GPS for the money.
GET IT TODAY! October 3, 2008 Ok, wow, get it now! For everyone out there skeptical of this great, super-easy to use & extremely helpful device, look no further. For one thing, I thought this was just another "guy gadget" that my husband was wanting. He kept swearing that it was so cool and so worth it; I told my 81 year old dad I was going to get it for him and he replied "why can't he just use a map like everyone else?" (which is what I was thinking....) Anyway, back to 2008, I ordered it for my hubby for his birthday and it is the BEST. He never gets lost anymore and I never get anymore frantic phone calls from him, griping and whining about Yahoo! maps being wrong and "if he only had a GPS." I, too, love it. You can go anywhere AND arrive there--no problems. And if you're spontaneously in the mood for Chinese, Italian, BB-Q or anything in between, you can look up restaurants in the area specializing in that cuisine. Ladies: if you think this is a waste, you're dead wrong. Get if for your husband, get it for you, get it for your sanity. You will never be lost again. And as far as easy to use, I give it an "A+" for sure. Turn it on, it acquires a satellite in seconds, type in the destination and away you go. The voice is super easy to hear & clear; we have ours mounted, but can detach it at our convenience. This GPS is the max! Get it today!
Great Features - Overall Good Buy October 3, 2008 Just recently bought this GPS. Overall, it's a good GPS. They have a lot of features, but the most important feature is having the text to voice where it will announce the actual street. This is a definite must feature to have on any GPS.
Only few downsides is that it seems to take a few seconds to turn on/boot up, and I have had a few instances where it takes a minute or two to find the satellite. However, the delays really are neglible and the features of this particular GPS far outweigh the issues.
My biggest warning would be to NOT buy from Amazon. They changed their price matching policy to only 7 days, and the pricing of this GPS fluctuates significantly. I definitely recommend this GPS, but it seems that Amazon.com's customer service policy has definitely eroded. I'm learning the hard way not to buy from Amazon.com directly any more.
Great GPS but some stupid quirks October 3, 2008 I love this GPS for the most part. It is great, says out street names, has a nice bright screen and everything that you expect out of a great GPS. Trust me it has all of it. But now for the stupid quirks which irk people like me and I'm sure irritate many others too using this one. If these little things can be improved upon I think this would be the best buy at this price
1)ROUTING: Sometimes actually shows longer and more roundabout routes. This is actually not a small quirk but a bigger problem, but ever since I've been using it, I've encountered it only once and thus didn't want to make it a sore point of concern. So just once it took me places I didn't want to go whereas I could've just used the highway and got there much earlier. The inroads were in a run down area thus irritating me even more.
2) NO QWERTY KEYBOARD: WHY the heck would these companies not give a QWERTY keyboard. I mean like there's got to be a seriously daft and dumb engineer or R&D person sitting in their labs who comes up with this great product but gets this stroke of genius to NOT put in a QWERTY keyboard in the GPS. Is you've not used their version of a keyboard then trust me you have NOOO idea how irritating it can get when you trying to put in an address. And if you're sitting in a lousy car without air conditioning on a very hot summer day trying to key in an address then please try to keep your cool or you may just want to throw the unit out of the car in anger.
3)VOLUME: Volume somehow is not that great and if you're listening to music which is remotely loud then its very easy to miss the directions being given out.
4)SUCTION CUP/ HOLDER: Another very irritating thing about this GPS is that these guys have just done a very lousy job at the physics of the gadget. I have an Acura TL and somehow with this cumbersome antenna sticking out of the back of the screen, they had to end up giving a suction cup/ holder just a tab bit too small. Therefore everytime it is quit a pain to attach the GPS to the windscreen becuase I need to constantly adjust and readjust the antenna and the positioning of the holder for a few minutes till I can get the position right and get it attached right to the glass.
5) SIGNAL: it takes a little extra time sometimes to acquire signal. Seems quite a primitive problem but happens not too often thus it hasn't bothered me enough to downgrade the rating of this product.
Rest everything is great about this unit. the leather cover, the whole interface in general, bluetooth, and many other functionalities (which I may never really use..but its good to know they're there).
So go ahead and buy this. I hope GARMIN comes up with a solution to fix these little oddities in this unit. But I personally feel that many users might not find them to be such a big deal as to fore go this great price and not buy the 350. Decision is yours. If such things might trouble you then you may want to assess which brand do you want to go in for. But then I don't know how much better are the other manufacturers' offerings in the market. Because this just might be a best of the worst kind of a situation.
All in all its a good product at the end of the day and gets the job done!
