Easy to use, does what I need it to July 17, 2008 This is my first GPS that wasn't strictly for pedestrian use (geocaching). I use a Mac (10.5.4), so I wanted something with compatible software. The software Garmin makes available for this device is excellent. This unit came with the 2008 maps preloaded but when I registered at garmin.com I received a free update to the 2009 maps (and a firmware update).
I've only had it two days now, but my favorite features so far:
- Voice notifications are common sense. The GPS isn't yelling out "Turn in 200 feet" while you're waiting at a stop light. Also, it tells you the street "Turn left on Main Street" versus "Turn left in 200 feet". - The Mac software works. Get Bobcat for sure. Find the mac software here: http://www8.garmin.com/macosx/. Their browser plugin, Garmin Connect works in Safari. Read that again... Garmin Connect works in Safari. - You can create a myGarmin account and have geocaches uploaded to the unit via USB. Pinpoint a location, select the surrounding caches, and Garmin Connect handles the upload. Too easy. - QWERTY keyboard. Or ABCDEF if you want. - Auto-routing. Garmin calls it something else, but there is an option for creating a "best route" from a bunch of points on your map - Auto correction. Take a detour during your trip and the nuvi can get you back on track.
I bought this for an upcoming move and house hunting trip. I was able to plot 30 homes and neighborhoods I wanted to look at on Google Maps. I used takitwithme.com to convert those points to a GPX file. I used Bobcat to import that GPX file to my nuvi 750. I used the nuvi to create an optimized route (with my house as the start and end point) automatically. So now, when I get to this new city I *should* be able to hit all 30 areas in a single day, without driving all over the place. I'll post an update after the move, but so far I've been pretty impressed with this GPS.
Good but not great July 14, 2008 I love the GPS unit!
not as pleased with the retailer, I did not see anywhere in the description that the unit was a refurb, they said it was new but it is a bit deceptive to infer "new" when it is a refurb.
Everything else about the seller was great!
This GPS makes me feel like riding a Batmobile. July 13, 2008 The sophisticate, accurate, smart and delicate features that this GPS offers is great. If money is available, I highly recommend this GPS to those who have hard time finding places on their own.
First opinion July 13, 2008 The shipment arrived promptly. After charging the Garmin it aquired the satellites far more rapidly than my Garmin V. Also it easily maintained contact when I moved into the house. I like the QWERTY keyboard option. The documentation supplied was only the rapid start type. For more information I had to download the manual from the internet. The directions were good. I especially liked the suggestion of moving to the right or left of the highway to ease the next turn.
navigator July 12, 2008 I'm still learning all the features on this but it was most helpful on a recent trip to Charleston, SC. I was very glad I'd bought it.
