5 out of 5 stars Kindle magic   July 7, 2008

I received my Kindle as a Fathers day present from my wife. It is, to date, the most useful, best performing present that I have ever received.

I have subscribed to the NYTimes (download daily) and select through sections list for ONLY what I want to read. No papers to recycle, no newsprint fingers....and in a form that is easy to handle! Also Fox golf news( a personal interest) specific and to the point!

I have downloaded my first five books....read three and started fourth. By the way, I typically buy new release "hard Covers" and the price difference is substantial!! I only wish that I had my Kindle before a recent three week China trip. I carried 6 pocket books (size?) in my baggage (weight, space, ultimately leave behind), and had to buy more, rather than one pocket book sized, lightweight Kindle with as many books as I wanted....and the ability to keep them. Are you kidding?????? What comparison??

I have set the type size to MY favorite reading size (getting older) and find moving around within the book incredibly easy.

You couldn't steal it back from me!!!!

I bought the Kindle for my wife. She says:
I can always plan my trips. I always know how heavy my bag will be. I am delighted by that. I like that it stays open no matter where I am. The page is always there and doesn't get blow closed.
Just as it's easy to breeze through a book, the Kindle makes it possible for some deeper reading.
You don't lose a page, you don't have to fuss to turn a page. I can take notes and look up words, mark a page.
Recently I was able to distract myself while sitting in the dentist's chair. The dentist remarked that the pages were easier to read than the model in a Border's bookstore.

4 out of 5 stars Kindle   July 7, 2008

I absolutely love this product. After reading only a few books on it, I picked up a traditional book and shortly found myself missing the ability to look up words in the text. The Kindle is not great at web surfing and browsing the Kindle store is slow but those are not reasons I bought it.

5 out of 5 stars At last! A solution for compulsive readers.   July 7, 2008

I cannot go anywhere if there's the least possibility of waiting without a book in hand. If I know it'll be a long wait, such as the dentist, I bring more than one lest I finish the first one. (I'm a very fast reader, which can be a problem.) When I travel, I always brought a bag O' books--mostly in paperback--to be read and donated en route. What with the airlilnes charging for luggage, homeland security, etc. I find my Kindle a lifesaver. In one little "book" that I can throw in my handbag, I've got a library! As far as I'm concerned, it's the greatest invention since Gutenberg. Not only that--I"ve been demonstrating it to all my friends. I think they run and hide when they see me coming!

The other thing is that I dropped my KIndle on a tile floor and it broke. Tragedy! I was bereft. Called the Kindle number, and within a week, they had sent me a brand new one free of charge. I had to re-enter my chosen books but they were all there in my Amazon library so it was no big deal. All is back to normal again. I have my security blanket.

I have always loved Amazon. Now I buy my books for less, am more up-to-date, and can enjoy instant gratification. The only regret I have is that some publishers seem oblivious and don't Kindle their books or wait too long to do it. Aside from my normal quota of mystery and sci-fi, I find I'm re-reading the classics and old favorites. Nothing like a good shot of Trollope to keep me occupied!

Thanks, Amazon and Jeff Bezos!!!!
