no 2009 maps - why bother May 3, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Thank you for contacting Garmin International.
I'm sorry, but unfortunately the Nuvi 660 no longer qualifies for a free map update. Unfortunately, it was recently determined that the Nuvi 660 would not be manufactured or offered with the 2009 version of the mapping. Although Garmin may offer a map update for units that are purchased after a map update is released, this only applies to units that will continue to be manufactured and will be offered with the newer mapping pre-installed. Unfortunately, the Nuvi 660 is not going to be offered with the 2009 mapping, and therefor does not qualify for a free map update....

Just talked to their customer service, they DON'T give free map upgrade to any previous purchase even within 1 day old. They just guarantee new maps when purchased.

Great product with lots of features for a great price. Compact, easy to use, bluetooth paired easily with cell phone, bright screen, changeable car icons available thru site registration. Slight trouble hearing voice direction at full volume over talking or radio. Products works great with beanbag holder/mount also. Fast delivery-arrived 1 day after ordering!!! Very happy with purchase over all.
THIS IS THE ONE TO BUY! May 2, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I did research which is usually to scan the reviews at amazon everytime i buy something. FOr a gadget like this (my 1st gps) im usually the guy who spends the extra money for more features and reliability. After reading the reviews of this and the 770, I decided to go with something below the flagship/top of the line and im really glad i did. The 660 works perfectly. Boots up quickly and calculates your route in seconds. I 'knows' all the 1 way streets, and is very easy on the eyes while driving. Comes with detailed manual..but i never needed it. VERY intuitive..just touch the screen and youre there! You can also use it like a yellow pages. If i want to know all the guitar shops in NYC, but im in philly, i can use the 'NEAR' feature, type in guitar and it will tell me all the stores with guitar in the name in NYC. I love this. It really does everything (and more) that you would want it to do, except create the 'salesman' route. I wish it did this, but was not worth the extra cash. I could not be happier with the 660 and i HIGHLY recommend it. I have it a month and its great. The price has gone up $30 since i bought mine.
A great GPS device with just a few minor flaws May 2, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is my second Garmin GPS (my first one was a StreetPilot C340) and overall I'm very happy with it, with a few minor exceptions. One thing I don't like is the fact that it can only read MP3 files. The .wma format doesn't work so you'll have to convert all those files into MP3 before you can load them into your GPS. Also, it has a feature that allows you to play your MP3 files over FM stations; I've tried every possible station and the sound quality is pretty bad (a lot of static noise). I then tried connecting my GPS to an MP3-to-cassette adapter and the sound quality is much better! The other option is to listen to your MP3 via the device itself, which works well but the volume is limited. The traffic information has so far not helped me a single time so I'm not sure if I'm going to renew my membership. So far I'm a little disappointed with this feature. Finally, some addresses (and quite a few stores like Walmart) are not listed in the database, but that's not a flaw with the device itself, Garmin just needs to update their maps. I called them about that and they told me that individual users need to update the map (online) with any missing stores or addresses (then we have to pay around $70 for those map updates which I find ridiculous). The cell phone feature works great! The sound is incredible so if you have a compatible Bluetooth phone you'll want to use that feature. If you travel a lot or if you're bad with directions, this GPS will change your life. You won't want to go anywhere without it. Garmin did a great job with this one.
