Canon PowerShot G9 September 9, 2008 I have been very pleased with purchasing this camera. It is as awesome as they say. I'm still learning all the features and I'm loving all the options. The manual is really helpful in understanding all the settings. The main thing I like about this camera is the size. It's as small as a good point and shoot but takes pictures like a good SLR camera. I thought the rechargable battery would be a problem, but it lasts for a good length of time before I have to charge it, and I take pictures all the time. The battery charger is even so simple (without a long cord) that you can pack it in your camera case for those longer trips. I also like that you can use the full 12.1 megapixels or go down to lower megapixels when the higher is not needed. I would suggest getting at least a 1G SD card with it. I actually like the fact that it doesn't have an internal memory. It's less to have to format. All in all this is the best camera I have had. It brings back my love for photography. I can't wait to fully understand all it's MULTIPLE functions! Way to go Canon!!
very usful tool for daily life September 8, 2008 Cheap, verstile, and muti-functional.
I realy enjoy it.
esp. the M function that make it easy to control.
Amazing September 8, 2008 Amazing Camera... The Perfect Fit For Me...I spent two months researching what camera to buy. Canon really packed some amazing features into this camera. I needed a fully functional camera that was smaller and sturdy. This camera gave me the artistic flexibility I wanted, RAW setting and LIGHTNING FAST operation with manual, semi-auto and fully automatic point and shoot capabilities. AMAZING camera, not for everyone, perfect for me, a serious amateur who likes the outdoors.
Solid camera, good price September 1, 2008 I had the powershot G2 and loved it but found it too slow and wanted to upgrade. I love the feature set of the G9 however could not give it a 5 because there is a modest amount of grain on ISOs above 200 (likely due to the higher pixel count). I love the full control and the solid feel of the camera. I have an external speedlight flash that works like a charm with the G9. A major bonus for this type of camera is the use of RAW and this is not so common and always a pleasure. It is slightly boxy and heavy so would not be considered a pocket camera (unless you have very big and deep pocket). I use the included neck strap and look the part of the tourist. I have always been a fan of the Canon line and this is no exception. I can't wait for the day you can have G9 power in an elf body/from factor.
Very good product! August 29, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
After holding out for years withe the 4 megapix G3, I finally upgraded to the G9 - and I'm glad I did! Staying within a Canon product makes the learning curve almost non-existent. This camera takes very good pix.
I also like that tech keeps getting smaller. The G3 uses the now-dated CompactFlash memory card where the G9 uses the SD card. I just happened to have a 4 gig SD card laying around and the size works perfectly, as in I can capture several hundred pix even at the 12.1 mgpixel setting.
My only complaint is that, unlike the G3, the LCD screen isn't on a swivel. Many times, I'll take a pic of my wife and I by holding my arm out to length and snapping the pic. Without the ability to swivel the LCD screen around, it's a guess as to whether I've lined it up correctly.
The utilitarian look of the all-black body is very cool. I've yet to buy any lense adapters but will likely do that in the future.
A good buy! If you go to Pricegrabber.com, you'll find the lowest price. For Aug, 2008, I bought it at BuyDig for $432, no tax, no shipping. Check it out!
