well worth the price March 6, 2008 Very nice features, easy to use. Picture quality seems to above average. I was concerned about a noise the camera made upon start up, i think it is the lense and/or cover just getting started. I asked someone else who also has the same camera, and theirs did it too. Also, if you gently shake the camera, you can also hear a noise, like something is loose inside the camera. The others did this too. But it hasnt seemed to affect the camera use or the pictures. I am guessing/hoping it is normal. Battery life isnt as good as I would like, but not too bad. I am thinking of buying an extra battery. Size is very nice. Overall, so far I am very satisfied with the quality and the value.
Coolpix camera March 4, 2008 I am really impressed with the pictures from this camera. I think it is easy to use and really like it. My only problem is that evening pictures are too dark. But overall, I am really happy with my purchase, especially for the price.
nikon coolpix s51 March 2, 2008 i got this camera in hope that it would be better than my kodak v 530. the only thing better was the led 3 inch screen other than that the pic are ok but it is way to slow in taking pic it take to long to focus and you loose a goot shot my old camera puts this nikon to shame inall ways except for the large led screen i expected better
Good little camera March 2, 2008 I bought this to replace my Coolpix 5000 which had decided to give up the ghost after six years. After looking at various cameras I decided to buy the S51. After a month of owning the camera I can say, I am most pleased. The image quality is excellent and I find the image stabilization really helpful after few too many espressos or when dealing with the Oklahoma winds. I found the menu system to be pretty well laid out, and the 3 inch LCD is great for seeing what you are shooting and has very good accuracy. My only minor complaint would be the lack of a protective coating over the LCD, I mostly likely would have removed it anyway, but it would be nice to have the option since it smudges rather easily. All in all it is a great camera, which will serve me well until I buy a DSLR.
I was disappointed February 23, 2008 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
Unfortunately I was disappointed with the Nikon Coolpix S51. It looks nice, but when taking a picture, it takes it like a second after you push the button, so the lag always messes up your shot. In the movie mode, it has a very awkward zoom that's very blocky and looks terrible.
The 3-inch screen is pretty nice but easy to get smudged.
However, despite my bad experience, if you don't use the movie mode or don't really care about lag, this seems like a nice camera otherwise. It has a lot of features (some a little too specific; but it's nice to have). I just didn't really like it, that's all.
