Great for travel October 6, 2008 Bought this before going on a trip to Germany hoping it would be stable enough for my 30D paired with a 70-200 2.8L IS lens. Setting it up as a tripod is definitely not enough to support the weight (although I assumed it wouldn't); the legs would buckle and the whole thing would collapse. However, when secured to the top of a railing, the head held up just fine. With all the other lens I have the pod works amazingly well; I even figured out how to set it up vertically to get some interesting ground shots. Highly recommended!
Works with SLR October 5, 2008 I own Canon 30D and Canon 24-105mm f/4 L IS Lens so I decided to buy GP3 (slr zoom) version of this pod. Works better than I expected... this pod is stable enough to handle my camera (30D with my lens weight is about 1,4 Kg), I'm taking it often with me, good for taking pictures in nature without need to take my regular tripod.
Maybe it works also as it's shown at pictures, like mounted on tree or telephone post, but I love my 30D tooooo much to try it ;)
Gorrila pod review September 30, 2008 This is a great product. Make sure you go by the model recommendations on the joby website. I had a Canon A 620 and the basic Gorillapod cannot take the weight of this heavy camera (even though its not an SLR), so I had to go for the gorrilapod SLR. Works great, can be easily wound around any support. I also tried to use it on a fixed support on a small cement mound near the Eifell tower and works well that way too. Make sure you wrap the legs around real tight. I would recommend this product.
Use this tripod to take photos anywhere! September 28, 2008 My husband and I use our gorillapod constantly to set up self-timer photos in unusual settings and where no one else is around. I.e., perched on a rock near waterfalls, wrapped around metal poles or tree branches, propped on the hood of our Jeep. This is a must-have if you like to take photos outside and stray from common tourist destinations. It works great for small and mid-size cameras. I'm not sure it would support the weight of a larger model. The legs are fully adjustable and the top swivels up and down which allows various photo angles. It's about 8 inches long and folds up slim which makes it easy to pack. I have also bought gorillapods for 2 family members already and we all love them.
Joby GP1-EGEN September 25, 2008 This review is for the Joby GP1-EGEN Gorillapod Flexible Tripod (Green)
I love it!
Great with my Canon PowerShot SD750 even on vertical mode! It's also easy to carry as I just hang one of the leg inside my small camera bag (Case Logic TBC-3) and secure it with the zipper.
