I got this drive to go with my Mac Mini. Works great in the FireWire port. Has been running non stop for months now. Would not use for a on the go HD as the case is plastic so I think it more for a in the house or to work and back drive. Look for something more sturdy if you plan on going on location for movie shoots.

When Verbatim bought out SmartDisk, they made some changes. I have owned many SmartDisk FireLite disks and have been exceptionally pleased --- so I bought this Verbatim 320GB drive. It's great! It's FAST. It came with both a FireWire cable as well as a USB cable. The USB cable is a Y cable so that additional power can be obtained from a 2nd usb port on your computer, but on my MacBook Pro 17" it isn't necessary --- one USB port runs it just fine. And of course, the FireWire cable powers it perfectly --- no external power supplies necessary. There were only two things which surprised me about this drive. From the photo, I thought the case was metal, just like the SmartDisk FireLites that it replaced, but it is actually silver plastic. The second surprise was how hot the bottom of the drive gets after intense usage. I had the drive sitting on the seat next to me as I was doing very intensive video editing, and when I was done 2 hours later, I picked up the drive to pack it away in my bag and it was very noticeably hot on the bottom. It was a bit hotter than the bottom side of my MacBook Pro. The drive features two dim deep blue lights (one on each side) to indicate that it has power. They don't flash when the drive is accessed, which is good. But the lights don't go out when you eject the drive from your desktop. They only go out when you disconnect the cable. Overall I am VERY pleased with drive and highly recommend it.
