3 out of 5 stars Check your size needs   November 16, 2007
Others have noted the cramped dimensions of this photo backpack, but, as you might suspect, it all demands on what equipment you're using. I have a Nikon D70 with Nikon 40-120 VR zoom, Nikon 70-300 VR zoom, and Tokina 12-24 zoom lenses. Also Nikon SB600 flash, a couple of polarizing filters, and the usual connecting cords and chargers.

Just couldn't get it all into the Expedition 3, even with a shoehorn. The lenses weren't too long, just too wide. Traded this model in for an Expedition 4 model which carries all of the above comfortably. Pricing for the 3 model is much better than the 4, but if you can't carry your gear the price doesn't matter. So, you'll either need to measure your gear carefully or actually try to fit it in the backpack itself to insure your needs are met.

The Expedition 3 doesn't have a waist or sternal strap like the 4, making it harder to position just right on your back. Fit and finish are excellent on both models. Both accept the modular pack and strap add-ons by Tamrac.

4 out of 5 stars Tiny but Mighty!   October 5, 2007
If you are looking for a bag to fit your laptop, or a change of clothes, as well as your DSLR /SLR, keep looking. Crumpler bags might better serve your purpose. This little bag snugly fits my Nikon D80 with a mounted 70-200mm with lens hood, a 12-24mm lens, an extra battery, a few extra memory cards, a monopod (strapped to the exterior) and little else. It is however, well constructed, attractive, and offers good camera protection. If, like myself, you are a person who prefers to pack light when it comes to your gear, this little bags offeres a great way to tote your camera at a very affordable price. You will not be dissapointed.

5 out of 5 stars I got the 5 too   September 3, 2007
This pack is perfect for my camera gear. It fits camera extra lens and flash in it very well. A light meter and stuff is pushing it. But for the afternoon this little bag is nice. I got the expedition 5 too as to carry all my stuff and extras, but great little bag for the money.

5 out of 5 stars Great small bag! Saved my gear from total disaster during a downpour.   July 8, 2007
Can't fit much...but just enough for me on many occasions. Here are my two typical loads with this bag:

1) Canon rebel XT with attached Canon 24-105L lens, and a Sigma 80-400 OS lens (HUGE lens).
2) Canon rebel XT with attached Canon 24-105L lens, Tokina 12-24, and Sigma 70-300.

I am also able to attach a Velbon luxi tripod to the outside of the pack. Each load stated above also has room for exta batteries, CF cards, cleaning cloth, and a few other extras.

Water resistance. I got caught out in a crazy NC down pour and was able to keep my gear safe despite a 20 minute hike back to the car. The pack isn't waterproof though. There was a bit of moisture creeping in...just not enough to do any damage.

Can't ding it on it's small size since I knew what I was buying before I bought it...does that make sense?

I own several Tamarac camera related bags and holders, and they have yet to disappoint me. This backpack is compact and easier to lug around than a full blown camera bag. Perfect for that short trip and still take enough to get the job done. Outstanding product
