1 out of 5 stars Horrible GPS   December 31, 2007
I purchased this GPS thinking that it was a portable battery powered GPS. I came to find out it needs to be plugged into a power source at all times. I just thought that for how much it costs it wouldn't have to be plugged in all the time. This is a lame product.

5 out of 5 stars Love this thing! Great, but some flaws.   June 8, 2007

Wow, what a deal. I had one of those small GPS' without touch screan and I was always frustrated with it.

this thing is great.

PRO's:
- Large 7" touch screan (makes programing a breaze)
- Voice promt directions
- Points of interest
- MP3 player = actually sounds good
- Hard drive based (lots of storage for MP3's)
- Fast processor
- Unix Based (Hackable?}

Con's
- Does not play movies (Although could probably be hacked)
- Cannot change the Voice (for the driving promts)
- Older GPS tracker (Take a little longer to lock on in 3D - but once it does it is VERY accurate)

This is not perfect but -- I love it!

Fantastic gps. Large screen allows permits easy viewing yet does not impede vision through front windshield.

1 out of 5 stars do not buy this unit   March 2, 2007

DO NOT buy either of the Nextar units. I originally bought the 2707 at Canadian Tire. Great price, huge screen etc. The unit takes forever to lock up and that voice is more annoying than my ex-wife. The routes it displays are ridiculous. It has you exit a highway and driving through towns, when you could go a few more exits down the road and get to your destination faster with out all the stop and go driving.

Secondly, my unit locked up and died after only 2 months use. I sent it back to the factory in Dec of 2006, as of 3/1/07 I have not recieved my replacement unit. The tech support is just lip service and no-one can give me a straight answer as to were my new unit is or when I can expect delivery. I am traveling to Canada to see the Brier and am not looking forward to navigating through Hamilton Ont. w/o a GPS. I am buying a new Garmin GPS and will put the Nextar unit on ebay if and when I ever recieve it. STAY AWAY FROM THE NEXTAR UNITS!!!!!

1 out of 5 stars Simply put, this is not a good GPS!   November 10, 2006

I bought the Nextar P7. but aside from its large screen it had so many serious drawbacks, I returned it and got a Plenio VXA-3000 which also has a 7" display but is far superior in just about every way!

Some of the P7's problems:

It takes about a minute to start up. It takes another minute or so to lock into a 3D signal. In contrast, the Plenio starts in under 10 seconds, and is locked into a 3D signal in about another 10 seconds.

Once started, a woman's voice keeps repeating "Acquiring GPS Signal" even though lots of satellites are already being tracked.

The unit may have two million points of interest, such as gas stations and hotels, but I could only access them in alphabetical order, instead of distance order. I wanted to know where the nearest gas station was, not that there's an Arco station on Atlantic Ave (when I was about 12 miles from Atlantic Ave)!

On my next trip with it, I couldn't get it to re-adjust the given route (i.e., forcing it to re-route me to my destination). The route it wanted me to take was imposible due to road-work!

There were many other problems with this unit, but to 'cut to the chase', look elsewhere! If you want a 7" display, checkout the far superior Plenio VXA-3000. Btw, while you can order the Plenio VXA-3000 on Amazon, unfortunately it's shipped from TigerDirect which adds about $20 shipping!
