| Customer Reviews:
pleased with the device September 25, 2008 Ibought this device in order to know the distance to the middle of the green from anywhere on the hole. It does exactly that. I am happy with it and if any one wants to know this information as I did they will be satisfied.
The bar has been set !! August 31, 2008 The basic idea is to get the distance from where u stand to the green so that you can choose the right club. Another variation is to find the distance you have hit with a club. iGolf Neo does both of these things very well. So far the gps units were all in the $400 range and now there is an very affordable product. I took this product for a few rounds now and i have to say it has helped me tremendously..
Pros - Fairly easy to use. Quick to get the satellite signals and get going after u turn it on. For a $30 membership you get 100 credits. Not that for each 9 hole a credit applies. So for 18 holes, 2 credits apply. But you don't need to get a membership since you can map the course yourself with a little effort.
Cons - The abbreviations for points other than front, center, back would take some time getting used to. if you get a membership and download the same course multiple times, credits are deducted each time you download. you have to call igolf to get your credit back. This is a small effort only. If the gps info is not available, you have a single credit which applies towards requesting a course to be mapped. Not sure why it is that way.. The belt clip that comes with the product is useless since it keeps popping out of the clip. You can get a leather case of a cellphone that somehow fits the Neo quite well.
Just the ticket! August 27, 2008 I have been researching GPS rangefinders for two years after giving up on line-of-sight laser models (ever tried to focus on a 18" flag from 175 yards?).
I was impressed by the number and variety of GPS devices on the market and amazed at the array of features. But I could never bring myself to pull the trigger. Just too expensive for what I (and most people) need. Give me an accurate distance to the center of the green (and perhaps the distance to clear the creek on #6) and I'm a happy camper, and if you can help me figure out the max on my 6-iron, well that's all the better. After watching every sale on amazon and ebay for a looong time, I finally decided that I would just sit this one out and continue to waste time pacing distances from the oddly situated yardage markers on my home course. Then iGolf introduced the Neo in April. Great price point (cheaper than last year's hybrid). I watched the early returns (reviews) and then pounced.
I'm delighted. Everything I needed for less than half the cost of the market leader. Setup was a snap, and charting my home course (front, center, back of the greens, as well as a few key custom waypoints) took less than 1.5 hours. I even mapped the flags on the driving range! (Of course, you can download courses for the price of membership at iGolf.com, but as previously noted, I'm cheap.)
Another nice touch is the shot distance feature. Simply click "OK/SHOT" from the starting point and again when you've arrived at your ball and you can begin to chart your club distances under actual playing conditions. And that's really the point. The GPS by itself may or may not cut strokes. It's what you do with the information you now have in the palm of your hand that's important. In two rounds using the Neo, I only "mis-clubbed" once. I may have "mis-hit" a few times, but I did have a new confidence in my club selection. As a consequence, I was able to swing comfortably without having to "jump all over" a shot because I thought the distance was a reach. I fully expect this little device to help me improve the way I think about the game. I know that I will no longer be distracted by the search for a yardage marker.
iGolf neo August 17, 2008 L O V E I T!!!!! Received my neo on Wednesday and had a slight glitch with my computer while trying to download a course. I e-mailed iGolf and they responded by asking me to phone them when I was at my computer and in less than 10 minutes I was set to go. I used the neo today for the first time and the distances were right on the money. It does not have all the bells and whistles as other models which cost a lot more but for $150 it gives you the distances to front, center, and back as well as last shot distance and thats all you really need anyway. I am very pleased with this product and recommend it to all.
Really poor software August 14, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I'm delighted others have found this product useful. Unfortunately, after hours of following the company's directions on how to sync a course to the device with nothing to show for it but total frustration, I couldn't give a more negative review. Technical support only responds by automatically sending portions of the manual you already have. I don't know for sure, but I expect it would be better to spend more money and get a product that works. I went for the product because it was the least expensive. I guess you get what you pay for.
