A decent product September 17, 2006 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
The suction cup mount for the Garmin Nuvi's is a decent device. It holds a great suction and doesn't fall off repeatedly like some other suction cup devices I have used in the past. However, I did run into some issues where the suction cup was permanently stuck on the windshield if it was left on the window for too long of a period. The first time I ran into this problem was when the device was on the windshield for about three weeks, but I was able to get it off by simply slipping a tooth pick under the rubber and breaking the air seal. The second time I took it off, it was on the window for less than a week, but it very hot weather and some of the rubber had melted to the glass when I tried to remove it.
I guess the best thing to do is to remove the suction cup mount every time your done using the Garmin Nuvi for the day. This will prevent it from getting stuck to the windsheild and possibly melting to it if it has been left on it too long.
No issues yet August 26, 2006 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I think the other reviewers that are experiencing problems with their mount should definitely contact Garmin and see if they can get a replacement, it sounds like a bad rubber run. I've had mine for 4 months, in 40 degree cold and 110+ heat, and have experienced no issue with it. It does what it's supposed to do, and I would expect no less, considering it's holding an $800+ device.
Glued on August 19, 2006 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
After leaving this on my windshield for only 7 weeks I had to remove it with a razor blade. It had melted itself to the windshield. I live in Michigan, this definately shouldn't happen in these temps.
Horrible... August 1, 2006 39 out of 42 found this review helpful
This suction cup mount is absolutely horrible. I shouldn't say that...it's fantastic for about 3 weeks, then it's all down hill. Mine held great for about 3 weeks, then kept falling off with the sun pounding down on it. I cleaned the windshield and cleaned the suction cup, still falls off. Then yesterday my wife wanted to borrow it so I went to take it off my windshield and what do I find? The suction cup was literally glued to my windshield. It came off in pieces, and there's many stuck to the windshield still. Now of course it won't work at all. It isn't like I live in Nevada or something, where it's 110 degrees every day in the summer, to deteriorate the material (not that it should then either). This thing is made of some CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP material. Unbelievable. I've had my radar detector mounted on the windshield for 4 years. It's fallen off only a handful of times (maybe twice). So this thing gets 1 star. Only because I can't give it zero stars. It's too bad I can't find some other brand that makes one, because this thing is absolute JUNK and a waste of $$.
Rock solid. June 19, 2006 13 out of 17 found this review helpful
I use this as a spare in my car (my wife has the Nuvi 350). This mount is about the strongest suction-style bracket I have ever seen. Additionally, the suction cup material itself is very adhesive, even without engaging the suction lever. It does not leave any marks on glass and when the suction lever is engaged it is positively rock solid - zero chance of falling off. It also features an integrated power connection for the Nuvi's included cigarette lighter adapter. When you place the Nuvi in this bracket, a connection is made to power. You need not remove the power cord when you remove the Nuvi since the connection is on the bracket itself. Amazon's price is about $10.00 less than Garmin's and is a good value. Highly recommended.
